Roundup (April 16): Bases loaded walk in home seventh lifts Methacton softball past OJR in wild 10-9 contest

Methacton 10, Owen J. Roberts 9

Soleil Bond-Johnson (1-for-1, 2 RBI, 2R) drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh to deliver Methacton a dramatic PAC Liberty victory. The Warriors led 3-2 in a low-scoring contest after four innings before the fireworks came.

OJR scored one in the fifth, followed by two from the Warriors in their half of the inning to go up 5-3. The Wildcats put up a six-spot in the sixth to take a 9-5 advantage, but Methacton tied it with four more in the home sixth, setting the stage for Bond-Johnson’s walkoff free pass.

Kaitlin Pettine went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI for Methacton, while Jenna Kaufman was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and RBI. Courtney Freese pitched well in her four innings, yielding two hits and an earned run with five walks and four strikeouts.

Katelyn Stofko paced OJR’s offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a double and four RBI. Rachel Epps, Amelia Atkins, Gracelyn Przborowski and Sophia Cerimele all knocked in runs in the win. Atkins got the start in the pitching circle, yielding five runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings.

Pope John Paul II 8, Pottsgrove 5

Abby Simmers (3-for-4, 2R), Rylee Derecola (2-for-4, RBI, R), Molly Houchins (2-for-4, RBI, 2R), Kelly Murphy (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, R) and Sarah Boyce (2-for-4, 2 RBI) all had multi-hit efforts as PJP outlasted Pottsgrove in a PAC Frontier victory.

Lexi DiBricida got the win in the circle for the Golden Panthers, yielding five runs and nine hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking two.

Bailey Pysher (2-for-3, 2B, R), Hayden Pysher (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Mackenzie Gray (2-for-4, RBI, 2R) all had two hits for the Falcons. Avery Gleason added an RBI double, while Eckman surrendered 12 hits and six earned runs in seven innings of work, striking out four and walking two.

Perkiomen Valley 10, Upper Perkiomen 1

Maci Strechay went 3-for-4 with two steals, RBI and runs scored apiece and Ashley Carosi homered for Perk Valley to back a dominant pitching performance by Bella Reedy (7IP, 4H, ER, 2BB, 10K). Peyton Mears went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, while Denise Hurd (3-for-4, 2R) and Lili Foster (1-for-3, 2RBI) also made offensive contributions for the Vikings.

Baseball

Pope John Paul II 10, Pottsgrove 0

AJ Diaddezio drove in five runs and Carson Glose and TJ Boccella combined on a four-hit shutout in a five-inning PJP win over Pottsgrove in PAC Frontier play Tuesday.

Glose allowed three hits and struck out five over 3.1 innings and Boccella (2 RBI) gave up one hit and struck out four in 1.2 innings.

Tyler Tindall was 2-for-2 and scored three runs from the leadoff spot while Chase Frantz was 2-for-3 for the 8-1 Golden Panthers, who had 10 hits.

Owen Mountz was 2-for-2 for the Falcons.

Perkiomen School 13, Hun School 0

Perkiomen plated five runs in the first inning and another seven in the fourth as the Panthers improved to 9-1 with a dominant win over Hun School. Avery Smith hit a grand slam and Erick Diaz knocked in three runs in the win. Cesar Lopez (2-for-4, 2 RBI, SB), Kross Howarth (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Zach Mayza (2-for-4, 2R) all had strong days with the bat as well.

Haworth pitched all five innings for Perkiomen, yielding just one hit and one walk while striking out eight.

Boys Lacrosse

Boyertown 14, Pope John Paul II 10

Mason Barndt, Brayden Kuhar and Gio Daddario all notched hat tricks for Boyertown, who jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and were able to hold off the Golden Panthers the rest of the way. Ryder Gehris added two goals and an assist, and Joe Warrington, Anthony Genovese and Hadyn Rogoff also scored for the Bears.

Spring-Ford 13, Pennridge 10

The Rams jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter and held off Pennridge the rest of the way in a non-league victory.

Brady Welsh posted a game-high five goals for Spring-Ford, while Ian Evans and Preston Page registered two scores apiece. Gavin Roth, Sean Hassis, Nick Valerio and Hayden Wedemeyer also scored for the Rams, with Wedemeyer notching five assists to go with his goal. Hassis won 25 of 27 face-offs, and Dylan Cyr made 15 saves in the cage.

Phoenixville 21, Interboro 7

Phoenixville’s Will Linko outscored Interboro all on his own with an incredible 10 goals to go with six assists in a brilliant offensive performance for the Phantoms, who led 13-4 at halftime.

Finn Blanton added five goals and two assists, while Declan McCoy also netted a multi-goal game with two. Brady O’Donnell, Christian Rosone, Jack Nixon and Chris Harth also scored for Phoenixville. Braydn Strzelecki won 20 of 22 face-offs while also posting eight groundballs.

Perkiomen Valley 15, Pottsgrove 4

Bryce Coletta scored four goals to hit 100 points for his career in just 31 games as the Vikings improved to 6-4 overall and 4-0 in the PAC with a dominant victory over Pottsgrove.

Jackson Baker (3G, 2A), Jacob Rotay (2G, 2A) and Patrick Moloney (2G, 2A) all scored multiple goals for PV, which built an 11-1 halftime lead. Aiden Jacoby, Connor Macklin, Sullivan Roop and Kevin Gould also scored for Perk Valley, with the latter being Gould’s first varsity goal.

Girls Lacrosse

Methacton 16, Norristown 2

Ten different Methacton players accounted for the Warriors’ 16 goals, with Carmela Maro leading the way with three and Brynn Cipriano, Lily DeWan, Alexa Diezel and Elena Wechert all adding two apiece. Renee Blake, Bella Catania, Alexa Catoia, Lea DeWan and Maddy Washburn also scored in the win, and Erin Donnelly made four saves in goal.

Downingtown West 19, Perkiomen Valley 5

Leah Pfeiffer and Grace Schaffner scored two goals each in Perk Valley’s non-league defeat Tuesday.
