Roundup (April 12): Norristown baseball slugs its way past Perkiomen Valley behind homers from Murphy, Fryer

BASEBALL

Norristown 8, Perkiomen Valley 4

Perkiomen Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, but Norristown scored eight unanswered runs en route to a PAC Liberty win. Brett Murphy and Justin Fryer slugged solo home runs, while Asher Guarino went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs discord in the victory. Matt Leary went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI out of the leadoff spot and picked up the win on the mound, going 6 ⅔ innings while allowing eight hits, one earned run, three walks and five strikeouts.

Aidan Autovino tripled twice and plated three runs for the Vikings. Jack Tarloski was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and Jon Boyd went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

Spring-Ford 5, Boyertown 0

Dominic Ruggiero allowed just one hit across six stellar innings of work, leading Spring-Ford to a PAC Liberty win by striking out nine Boyertown batters. Jacob Witmer supported Ruggiero’s cause by going 2-for-2 at the dish with a double, stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI as the Rams also took advantage of five Boyertown errors and five walks issued by Bears pitchers.

Jonah Mayer got the start for Boyertown and pitched well, allowing three hits and three unearned runs while walking two and striking out five.

SOFTBALL

Spring-Ford 4, Boyertown 0

Jess Fliszar fired a complete game two-hit shutout on the road at Boyertown, walking three and striking out 10 in a dominant PAC Liberty performance. Riley Gancasz had an RBI double for the Rams, Autumn Eck added an RBI single and Caitlin Ashley went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Sammy Sobeck had both of Boyertown’s hits, while Kyra Neiswender pitched well across six innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out three.

BOYS LACROSSE

Emmaus 10, Boyertown 6

Boyertown led 2-1 after one quarter but failed to score in the second period and was unable to rally past Emmaus in non-league action. Mason Barndt (2G, 1A) and Brayden Kuhar (2G, 2A) each scored twice for the Bears, while Weston Loshnowsky and Gio Daddario each added a goal and an assist. Tyler Diffenderfer chipped in an assist in the loss.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Spring-Ford 12, Methacton 6

Megan Ruckman powered Spring-Ford’s offensive attack with four goals, and Riley Czapor added three goals and an assist as the Rams picked up a big PAC Liberty victory. Alexis Sowers contributed two goals for Spring-Ford, while Keira Ramondo, Gianna DeBattista and Hailey Mozi all chipped in one score apiece.

Giada Catoia and Lily DeWan paced Methacton with three goals each, and Calie Fisher made 11 saves in the losing effort.

Owen J. Roberts 17, Perkiomen Valley 9

Leah Pfeiffer had an excellent in a losing effort, tallying six goals, a draw control and a caused turnover for the Vikings. Julia Foley added two goals and four draw controls for PV and Alexis Keysock found the back of the net once. Holli Nuss won seven draw controls and Charlotte Foster made nine saves.

Upper Merion 17, Pottsgrove 5

Upper Merion used a balanced offensive attack paired with a strong defensive game plan to roll past Pottsgrove Friday in a PAC Frontier battle. Sam Walmsley, Olivia Smith and Maura Besz all recorded hat tricks for the Vikings, while Mackenzie Davis, Jess Reinhardt, Elisa Dougherty and Sydney Reed added two scores apiece as Upper Merion jumped out to a 13-3 halftime lead and never looked back. Chelsea Smith added an assist, and Anaya Onwubuariri made eight saves in goal.

Cece Hires (2G, 5GB, 1DC, 2CT), Vivian Kyler (2G, 1DC, 1CT) and Emily Sorg (1G, 3GB, 4DC) all had strong performances for Pottsgrove in the losing effort.

Boyertown 17, Norristown 4
