On paper, the stats said one story, but that’s typical of high school football. The Cougars entered Annvile-Cleona expecting a team that was evenly matched with the Cougars, but instead, met a team that was playing at a different level. The Dutchmen scored 38 first half points and defeated the Cougars,
The Dutchmen struck early and often in the first half, using the Cougar middle as an avenue to advance their ground game. The Cougars struck back in the second half, mostly through more passing attempts and running the ball on the outside.
The Dutchmen had a combined rushing total of over 390 yards and their defense forced several Cougar fumbles which resulted in touchdowns. The Dutchmen defense focused on Cougar running back Oscar Kelchner, keeping him to just 41 yards on 21 carries, while quarterback Braydon Eck was held to only 136 yards passing, going 8-for-19 with one interception. The Cougars were missing several starters including seniors Hunter Mease and Zack Mickey. The Cougars’ sole touchdown was a result of a one yard run by Eck in the third quarter.
Bryce Santos led the Cougar receivers with 71 yards on four catches. Penalties once again hurt the Cougars totaling 75 yards.
