Borowski throws 1-hit shutout, Sidorski hits pinch-hit homer in CB South’s win over William Tennent

WARMINSTER >> As soon as Maddy Borowski became aware she was working on a no-hitter was about the time the Central Bucks South senior right-hander lost her bid for it.

“I didn’t know but I tried to remember if any ball got hit and anybody got on and then I was like, ‘Huh,’” Borowski said. “And then that inning that I realized it was a no-hitter, my friend, actually, that plays on my other team, hit it up the middle. And I was like, ‘Great, there goes the no-hitter.'”

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Gigi DeMito – Borowski’s teammate for club side Rock Gold Way 18U Dryden – finally gave William Tennent its first hit of Friday afternoon when the senior catcher knocked a single back up the middle.

“I went over there actually and already rubbed it in a little bit,” DeMito said.

Borowski went right back to shutting down the Panthers, retiring the next four batters to put the finishing touches on a one-hit shutout. The Titans, meanwhile, scored five runs in the top of the sixth – three coming on Nora Sidorski’s pinch-hit home run – and pulled away to win the SOL nondivision softball matchup 7-0.

“It feels good,” Borowski said. “When I’m in my groove, I don’t know, it just feels good to be able to watch my team relax with no pressure on them and be able to get in the box and just hit when they want to.”

Borowski, a Shippensburg commit, hit a batter in the first then gave up a leadoff walk in the second but after the free pass struck out the following four and nine of the next 12 batters.

Third baseman Maura Fleming kept the no-hitter intact with a sliding catch in front of home plate on a bunt attempt for the first out of the bottom of the sixth.

“That was great,” Borowski said. “I couldn’t thank her enough for that. That was amazing.”

Borowski, who threw a no-hitter against Central Bucks West in a 2-0 win April 11, collected 11 strikeouts Friday as the Titans (11-7, 8-6 SOL Colonial) won their second straight and third in their last four games.

“My screwball and my rise were just on point today,” she said. “They just looked good. And then my curve I didn’t throw it as much as I normally do but when I did it moved very well like I needed it to.”

Sidorski’s blast in the sixth was the senior’s second pinch-hit three-run homer of the week, the Franklin & Marshall commit doing it first Tuesday in a 6-5 loss to Central Bucks East.

“I don’t have that in my head,” Sidorski said. “I’m not thinking about swinging for the fences but it happens, it happens.”

Steph Bendzlowicz went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Kate Muntz was 2-for-3 with a run scored for South, which is 6-2 since splitting their first 10 games. Maura Fleming was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

“In the beginning of the year it was such a roller coaster, I think that we’re definitely finally starting to hit our stride as far as offense goes,” Sidorski said. “Our defense has been spectacular recently and I think going into playoffs, the fact that our offense is sparking now is awesome.

William Tennent, which has already clinched its third consecutive outright SOL Freedom Division title, were shutout for the first time this season. The Panthers (11-6, 11-3) came into Friday averaging 9.3 runs per game after beating Cheltenham 22-2 in three innings Thursday.

“I think our approaches were still good, I think Maddy came ready to throw us down and she did,” DeMito said.

Tennent, 17 in the 1-6A rankings is at New Hope-Solebury 3:45 p.m. Monday then hosts Lower Moreland 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“I think it definitely gives us a good look at what we have to work on in practices before playoffs,” said DeMito, an East Stroudsburg commit. “So I think that’s a really good thing. I think this game was perfect timing for us.”

After a strikeout, a Hannah Tracy groundout scored Theis for a 3-0 lead. Sidorski came up to pinch hit with two runners still on and belted a pitch over the left-field fence for a three-run homer, putting South up 6-0.

“Nerves set in a little bit but soon as I stepped in the box it just went all away,” Sidorski said. “and smashed the first pitch.”

Muntz followed with a single with Camryn Lee’s double to right putting runners on second and third. Muntz came home to make it 7-0 as Fleming reached on an error.
