DLN Local Wrap: Figueroa leads Oxford past Bishop Shanahan
Oxford’s Cecelia Figueroa was a dominant force both at the plate and in the circle for the Hornets, who topped Bishop Shanahan 12-2 in five innings of Ches-Mont action on Wednesday. Offensively, Figueroa went 3-for-3 and drove in five runs. She also went the distance, limited the Eagles to two hits and one earned run while striking out five. Molly Friel also had three hits for Oxford.
Coatesville 15, Sun Valley 5 >> The Raiders offense exploded for 15 runs in the sixth inning for the Ches-Mont win. Caitlyn Reynolds had two doubles and 4 RBI in the big inning. Caity Hinton had three hits on the day, while Emma Friel, Ashley Stringer, Paige Wilkins, and Maddie Carpenter (home run) had two hits each. Megan Gochenauer struck out nine to earn the win.
West Chester Rustin 6, Downingtown East 5 >> Lainey Lacey blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie and power the Knights past the Cougars. Lacey and Mairead Hopkins each collected multiple hits, including homers, to lead Rustin. Lillian Waterer and Grace Roth has multiple hit games for East.
Avon Grove 12, Kennett 0 >> The Devils’ Payton Hale struck out 16 and allowed just one hit while blanking the Demons. Cait Long went 2-for-3 with a home run, and Taylor Morris and Lex Smith each had a double. Hale also registered two hits and sophomore Anna Heisler launched the first career home run, which was a grand slam. Immani Barrett had the lone hit for Kennett.
Baseball
Oxford 8, Bishop Shanahan 7 >> The Hornets scored two runs in the top of the seventh to complete a comeback win in league action. Owen Rector (three hits) and Danny Wyatt (two hits, 3 RBI) paced the hitting attack for Oxford. Sammi Whitehill led the Eagles with two hits and drove in two runs.
Downingtown West 4, Unionville 0 >> Pitcher Drew Turner went the distance, scattered five hits and fanned 10 to lead the Whippets. Josh Morse went 2-for-4 and Jake Kucera knocked in two runs to West. Nick Diehl had two of the five hits by the Longhorns.
Westtown 12, Academy of the New Church 1 (5 innings) >> The Moose improve to 8-2 in the Friends League (8-6 overall) with a win over ANC. Pitcher Taj Donald did not allow a hit, and struck out five, in three innings of work. Leading the offense for Westtown was Carl Wagner (three-run double) and Luke Holgate (2-for-2 with a run batted in).
Coatesville 9, Sun Valley 4 >> The Raiders scored six runs in the fifth inning to break open a close contest and ultimately beat the Vanguards. R.J. Rickabaugh and Jake Stewart each notched three hits, and Rickabaugh drove in two runs to lead Coatesville. Starter Will Dean went six innings and struck out nine batters.

Ches-Mont Doubles Championship >> Starting with 32 teams, the bracket for the league doubles tournament was shaved down to four, including two duos from Downingtown East. The Cougars’ team of Shrihan Madam and Adi Shankar advanced to the semifinals round and will face West Chester East’s Kyle Finding and Ben Gao. Downingtown East’s other team, of Abhiraj and Abhineet Srivastava, are to meet Joe Yarbrough and Joe Ingram from Avon Grove.

Women’s Lacrosse
Cabrini 25, Immaculata 9 >> The Mighty Macs fell in the Atlantic East Semifinal to wrap up a 7-10 record. Playing in its first conference semifinal appearance since 2018, Tessa Liberatoscioli led Immaculata with five goals and two assists. Jackie Murray added three goals.
Women’s Tennis
Mighty Macs Honored >> Four Immaculata players received Atlantic East Conference honors. Annamarie Degnan and Pamela Kontaras earned First Team All-Conference honors in doubles. The pair earned a perfect 5-0 record in league play during the regular season while going 2-0 in the conference Tournament. Meanwhile, the Macs’ second doubles team of Jessica Dougherty and Kelly O’Brien earned Second Team All-Conference honors. The senior team posted a 4-1 record in Atlantic East play on the season, going 1-1 in the postseason. Degnan also earned first team honors in singles, along with Dougherty.
Men’s Tennis
Watts, Fleming named First Team All-Conference >> Immaculata’s Jason Watts made his second-straight First Team All-Atlantic East Conference selection after earning a 4-1 record in league play this season out of the first singles position for the Macs. The sophomore is joined on the First Team by freshman Nicholas Fleming, who made his Atlantic East debut out of the second singles position, earning a 4-1 slate of his own on the season. The duo also represented the Macs out of the first doubles position on the season, earning First Team All-Conference as a collective as well after posting a 4-1 record in conference doubles play.
