Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup: Pennridge wins on Silber’s walk-off HR; North Penn’s Torresani gets 400th victory
Pennridge 10, Central Bucks East 9 >> Madison Silber gave Pennridge a dramatic comeback win, hitting a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to send the Rams past visiting Central Bucks East in Thursdayy night’s SOL Colonial Division contest.
Pennridge scored four runs in its half of the sixth to tie the Patriots 7-7 but East responded by scoring twice in the top of the seventh on RBI singles from Elizabeth Gray and Amelia Funston.
In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back singles by Catelyn Thursh and Grace Helbling put two on for Silber, who came through with a three-run shot to left to give the Rams (5-10, 2-4 division) their second straight win.
Thursh finished 5-for-5 with a double, triple, two RBIs and three runs scored while Grace Helbling was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and claimed the pitching win with a complete-game effort. Silber went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run, Chloe Coughenour was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Reagan Bauman with Reagan Bauman going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Gray was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored for CB East (9-6, 4-2), which lost its third straight. Soleil Dooner went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run, Alexandria Frenia was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice while Funston had three RBIs. Mackenzie collected two RBIs and Elise Waddington had two runs scored.
Pennridge took a 1-0 in the first on consecutive RBI doubles from Thrush and Helbling while a Thrush’s RBI single in the second made it 3-0. East grabbed the lead plating four in the fourth on a Funston sacrifice fly, Dooner’s RBI single and two more coming home after an error on a Wilson grounder.
Funston added a RBI groundout in the fourth with Dooner’s two-RBI single in the top of the sixth putting the Patriots up 7-3. Pennridge tied things in the bottom of the innings on RBI singles from Helbling, Mackenzie Owens and Coughenour and an Ashleigh Kenworthy RBI groundout.
North Penn 16, Central Bucks West 0 (4) >> Bri Wilmot and Sarah Sabocsik each hit home runs, Julia Shearer collecte three hits and Mady Volpe struck out 10 in a four-inning no-hitter as North Penn coach Rick Torresani earned his 400th career win as the Knights rolled to their seventh straight victory.
Wilmot opening scored with a two-run homer in the top of the second that ended with the North Penn up 6-0. Sabocsik two-RBI homer capped a nine-run fourth as the Knights (13-1, 6-0) posted a season-high 16 runs on 13 hits – seven for extra bases.
Shearer went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and three run scored while Wilmot was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and scored twice.
Gianna Cimino was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, Sophia Collins finished 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored while Rachel Lowry had a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Volpe allowed just four walks in throwing her fifth consecutive shutout.
Hatboro-Horsham 3, Wissahickon 2 >> Hatboro-Horsham erased a 2-0 deficit by scoring all three of its runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning – Kendal Leitner tying the game on a 2-RBI double with Abby Waeltz hitting the go-ahead RBI single as the Hatters remained undefeated with a comeback SOL Liberty win Thursday.
Kayla Tauber was 3-for-3 with a run scored for HH (13-0, 6-0 division) while Tess Kearney went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Leitner struck out 11 in a complete-game pitching win, allowing two runs – one earned – on four hits and one walk. After the Hatters went ahead in the fifth, she retired Wissahickon in order in both the sixth and seventh.
The Trojans (9-6, 3-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Katelyn Fitzgerald led off with a double and two batters later scored when Grace Franczyk reached on an error.
Wiss doubled their advantage in its half of the fourth on Danielle Ciliberto’s two-out RBI single.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kearney and Tauber hit consecutive one-out singles. After the next batter popped out, Leitner connected on a double to plate both runners. Waeltz followed with a single to right, scoring Leitner for a 3-2 lead.
Quakertown 5, Plymouth Whitemarsh 3 >> In matchup between streaking SOL Liberty sides, Plymouth Whitemarsh broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth but Quakertown scored three times in the top of the seventh for a comeback win.
Syd Andrews and Mary Wilkinson each had two RBIs while Emma Hilton scored two runs for the Panthers (12-2, 5-1 division), who won their seventh straight. Andrews also struck out six in earning a complete-game victory in the circle,
Talia Car finished 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored for the Colonials (9-6, 2-4), which had their six-game win streak snapped. Hannah Suh went 2-for-4.
In the bottom of the sixth, Carr put PW ahead 3-2 with a two-out RBI double.
A Hilton RBI double with one out in the top of the seventh pulled Quakertown even. After a LauraRose Morelock walk loaded the bases, Wilkinson’s RBI single gave the Panthers a 4-3 edge. An Andrews RBI sacrifice fly on the next at-bat extended the lead to two.
Andrews then retired PW in order in the bottom of the seventh.
An RBI groundout by Wilkinson gave Quakertown a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Marissa Perez’s bases-loaded RBI single pulled PW even in the fourth with the Colonials taking a 2-1 lead on a Molly Moore RBI single in the firth. Andrews’ RBI single in the top of fifth knotting things at two.
Moore took the loss in a complete-game effort, allowing five runs – four earned – on seven hits, walking three, hitting one batter and striking out seven. Andrews gave up three runs – two earned – on 11 hits and a walk.
Upper Dublin 4, Abington 0 >> Chloe Foster struck out eight in pitching a shutout, Kaelin Penna had a pair of RBIs and Upper Dublin picked up its third win in a row.
Dani Lucidi was 2-for-3, Ally Daid had a double, a stolen base and a run while Anna Levin also scored a run for the Cardinals (8-6, 2-4 SOL Liberty), who led 3-0 after two runs in the top of the first and added another in the second.
Foster, who eclipsed 100 strikeouts on the season in the contest, gave up seven hits and a walk.
Madison Cornell was 2-for-3 with a double for Abington (6-7, 0-6 SOL Liberty), who had a two-game win streak stopped.
Upper Dublin grabbed the quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first when two runs scored after a two-out error on Brianna Kesslick’s grounder. Penna’s RBI ground in the third put the Cards up three.
Leanna Schenk kept the Ghosts’ deficit at 3-0 in the fifth with her catch of a fly ball to deep left center with two outs and the bases loaded. Upper Dublin, however, tacked on a fourth run in the sixth when Penna hit an RBI single.
William Tennent 19, Cheltenam 0 (3) >> Anna Coulter connected on a grand slam during William Tennent’s 15-run bottom of the first as the Panthers cruised to a three-inning SOL Freedom win.
Lainey Scotese was 3-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and three runs scored while Olivia Clee went 2-for-3 with six RBIs and a run scored for Tennent (6-4, 4-0).
Coulter, who finished with five RBIs, hit her grand slam for a 10-0 lead.
Gigi Demito added an RBI and three run scored while both Sara Cummins and Giselle McLaughlin had an RBI and scored twice. Both Mackenzie Clee and Meg Curtis scored two runs.
Katie LaPlaunt allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked in one in pitching all three innings for Tennent.
