Upper Perkiomen’s high powered attack struck for three first half goals and never looked back as they defeated Northern York 3-1 in the first round of the PIAA Girls AAA State Playoffs. Lauren Powers headed home a driven cross from Erin Edwards 11 minutes into the game to give the Indians the lead. Three minutes later, Sarah Fisher also tallied on a header, this time with the cross coming from Sara Edwards. Nine minutes before halftime, Sara Edwards took a pass from Sarah Fisher and blasted home a shot from the top of the box to increase the Upper Perk lead to three. Northern York attempted to claw their way back in to the game with a Liv Goretski goal midway through the second half to narrow the deficit, but the Indians’ defense held tight to preserve the lead. Goalkeeper Ava Long had five saves for Upper Perk, who improved their record to 23-0-1 and gave the school it’s first ever State playoff win. Upper Perk now advances to a quarterfinal contest with Valley View from District II.
