Pennsbury girls soccer’s Abby Wick headed to SUNY Binghamton

FAIRLESS HILLS – Pennsbury senior Abby Wick may have been born a triplet but the central midfielder for the Lady Falcons soccer team is unique. So says her high school coach Kaitlyn Battiste.

“I really don’t know anyone quite like her,” said Battiste. “She has some very unique leadership qualities.

“She’s just a one of a kind individual – the way that she plays, her personality.”

“She’s has fun in everything that she does and she brought that with her to practice – to games .”

There were times, the coach says, when Wick would have the whole team crying with laughter over a skit that she performed.

Ahhh, but she knew when it was time to be serious and get down to business, the coach added.

With Wick, a four-year varsity starter who played mostly a defensive role for Pennsbury, the Falcons were able to put the clamps down on their opponents the past two years, winning 24 regular season league games, back to back Suburban One League (SOL) crowns, a district championship in 2014 and returning to the postseason last fall.

“All the girls really wanted to win. It wasn’t just about playing soccer and making friends. It was so much more than that,” stated Wick. “It was winning together, being a family and supporting each other.

“We had so much heart and with the coaches’ help, we came together as a team.”

After considering offers from Holy Cross, Loyola, and Lehigh, Wick decided on SUNY Binghamton University.

“I love the way they treat their athletes – academically and athletically,” said Abby.

And the Bearcats have got themselves a fine player in Wick, says Battiste.

“She is someone who works her tail off and challenges everything,” said Battiste. “She is always looking to find everyone else around her, trying to make her teammates better as opposed to looking for glory and individual opportunities

“She was always giving us 100 percent.”

Additional commits today at Pennsbury include Hannah Molloy, who is headed to Iona University to run cross country and track, quarterback Mike Alley, who will play at West Chester and linebacker Luke Snyder, who committed to Kutztown.

NOTES: A fraternal triplet, Wick’s brother runs cross country and she also has a sister who plays field hockey.
