Randa leads Hatboro-Horsham past Wissahickon

LOWER GWYNEDD >> Hatboro-Horsham has had a different starting lineup for each of its first four games.

As the Hatters continue to mesh, they also continue to find success. Hatboro-Horsham went on the road Friday night and earned a 58-38 victory over rival Wissahickon.

Kitty Randa led the way for the Hatters in the Suburban One League Liberty Division battle, with a game-high 21 points.

“Kitty’s been working really hard. When she’s hitting on all cylinders, it’s really good for us. Her and Leah (Harrington) are our go-to players, and Alli Hewish, a senior, has been consistently in double figures,” said coach Eric Glemser. “We have a short bench and we’re still trying to work some of our younger kids in.

“We’re learning. We’re learning to play together.”

Randa, in just her second year of varsity ball, is developing into a solid player for the Hatters.

“We’re really excited about the win. We came out strong and powered through the whole time,” said the junior, who scored seven points in the first quarter to spur the Hatters to an early lead. “Our passing was good and we were all knocking down a lot of shots. So it kept the game really fluid.”

Leah Harrington added 13 points for the Hatters, Caroline Shegogue had seven and Alli Hewish chipped in with six.

The Hatters methodically took control of the contest, leading by eight after the first quarter, by 12 at the half and extending to an 18-point advantage after three.

“We’ve improved each step of the way and they’re a fun group to coach,” said Glemser.

Key to Hatter success was the defense on Wissahickon’s Kaitlyn McGeary. She scored 16 points for the Trojans, but the Hatters limited her to three points in the second and third quarters as they gained more of a foot hold.

“I thought we did a good job on her,” Glemser said. “She’s gonna score. You gotta slow her down and frustrate her, which I thought we did. But I played against her in AAU and she’s a good player. When she’s on, it’s tough.”

Randa was a consistent force throughout, pouring in eight points in the pivotal third quarter.

“I’m kind of upset I didn’t play my freshman year but I’m having a lot of fun. I’m excited for the rest of this year and next year,” she said. “So far, we’ve done pretty well.”
