Haverford pulls off O’Reilly big upset of Conestoga
Haverford played the role of spoiler to perfection Tuesday night.
The Fords pulled off the biggest upset of the Central League season with a 33-30 victory over Conestoga. The Pioneers (19-2) entered play with only one loss. Had they won, their game Thursday against first-place Garnet Valley would have determined the No. 1 seed in the Central League playoffs, which get underway Saturday at Marple Newtown.
Annalena O’Reilly hit the winning 3-point basket with 0.6 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. O’Reilly and Brianna Blair (five rebounds) led the Fords (5-14, 4-11) with 11 points apiece. Erin Doherty registered nine points, six boards and three assists.
Elsewhere in the Central League:
Garnet Valley 47, Ridley 18 >> The Jaguars (19-2, 15-0) received scoring contributions from 12 players. Brianne Borcky led with seven points, while Sydney Fail and Emily McAteer each scored six for the Jags.
Izzy Hamlin scored nine points to lead the Green Raiders in defeat.
Springfield 46, Penncrest 30 >> With the win, the Cougars (18-3, 12-2) secured the No. 3 seed in the Central League tournament. Maggie O’Connell drilled four 3-pointers and scored 16 points, while Jordan D’Ambrosio added 10 points, five assists and four rebounds. Amanda Hopkins netted nine points and hauled in five boards.
Radnor 53, Strath Haven 22 >> The Raiders (16-5, 11-4) darted out to a 25-0 lead after the first quarter and cruised to their fifth consecutive win. Nicole Massimino had 11 of her 15 points in the first quarter and Allison Lanzone chipped in with 12 points. Alexa Solomon had six points and nine rebounds for Radnor.
Cayden Frazier and Morgan Crain paced the Panthers with six points apiece.
Harriton 57, Marple Newtown 51 >> Natalie Ayoub had a career game for the Tigers (10-11, 6-9) with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Devon Adams added 11 points and Olivia Young chipped in eight.
Lower Merion 50, Upper Darby 30 >> Gabby Liberio had six points and five steals for the Royals (0-21).
In the Catholic League:
Cardinal O’Hara 61, West Catholic 46 >> Two-time All-Delco Mary Sheehan posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go with four steals. Reigning Daily Times Player of the Year Hannah Nihill had a huge night with 20 points, seven assists and three steals, while All-Delco Kenzie Gardler added 12 points and three steals for the No. 1 team in the county (16-5, 10-2).
Archbishop Carroll 54, Lansdale Catholic 43 >> Erin Sweeney fueled the Patriots with 19 points, while Bella Sorrentino (five rebounds, three assists) and Maggie Pina each tossed in 10 points.
Archbishop Ryan 54, Bonner & Prendergast 48 >> The Pandas (13-9) had a one-point lead with four minutes to go, but couldn’t hold on. Maggie McPeak scored a team-high 12 points and Nyah Garrison added nine. Maeve McCann paired four points with seven rebounds.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 49, Baldwin 22 >> The Churchwomen (13-8, 10-1) stayed tied atop the Inter-Ac with Germantown Academy. Reilly Wright scored 15 points and Olivia Dirks had 11 points and seven rebounds. Elodie Furey finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Notre Dame 69, SCHA 52 >> Jill Kane converted five 3-point attempts en route to a game-high 17 points for the Irish (13-10, 7-4). Mandy McGurk finished with 13 points and six assists, while Tess Phillips recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
In the Bicentennial League:
Christian Academy 47, Bristol 21 >> Lindsay Haseltine netted 14 points and Danay Cooks-Green scored 10 for the Crusaders (17-3, 11-2), who led at halftime, 27-11. In nonleague action:
Sacred Heart 48, Stuart Country Day 34 >> Kyra Quigley powered the Lions (13-9) with a double-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Eileen Piombino tossed in 12 points and dished five assists.
Pottstown 67, Sun Valley 59 >> Kate Lannon led the Vanguards (6-15) with 23 points, giving her 1,500 for her career. That moves her in the top-15 on the county’s all-time scoring list.
Maddie Michael’s 20-point effort was a career high.
