Delco Girls Basketball Roundup: Colbert, Chester cruise to first win

Chester’s first win of the season was never in doubt.

Behind Monique Colbert’s double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, the Clippers crushed host Octorara 47-12 in a nonleague contest Thursday.

Shaynoni DeShields added 10 points for the Clippers (1-2), who led at halftime, 34-4. Sakinah Brice performed well on defense with nine steals to go with two points and Ceyrah Williams had six points.

In other nonleague action:

Notre Dame 55, West Catholic 48 >> The Irish’s Maggie Pina and Mandy McGurk were too much to handle for the visiting Burrs. Pina led with 20 points and seven assists, while McGurk followed close behind with 19 points and five assists. McGurk also made three 3-point baskets. Notre Dame upped its overall record to 3-2.

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 49, Haverford 31 >> The Jags (4-0, 3-0) got a balanced effort as Bri Borcky led all players with 11 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block. Emily McAteer (eight rebounds) and Jill Nagy tossed in nine points each. Nicole Barnes had another solid floor game with six points, four assists and two steals. Morgan Falcone added six points, two steals and two assists.

Erin Kelly netted a team-high eight points and Sara Walsh had seven for the Fords (3-3).

Radnor 65, Strath Haven 23 >> Sophomore forward Ellie Mueller had 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half and grabbed eight rebounds for the Raiders (2-1, 2-1). Sydney D’Entremont (15 points) and Brienne Williams (10), a freshman, both had big nights.

Margot Hotman paced the Panthers with eight points.

Springfield 59, Penncrest 23 >> In a battle of unbeatens, the Cougars (5-0, 4-0) roared past the Lions (5-1). Jordan D’Ambrosio registered 14 points and five assists, while Belle Mastropietro finished with 13 points and four steals. Alexa Abbonizio added 10 points and Alyssa Long had a fine all-around night with nine points, five steals and four assists.

Grace Harding led Penncrest with 12 points.

Marple Newtown 53, Harriton 46 >> Devon Adams paired 19 points with eight rebounds for the Tigers (2-3, 2-2). Halle Robinson scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half and drilled three 3-pointers. Olivia Young (nine points) also hit three shots from long distance.

Christina Brown poured in 28 points for the visiting Rams.

Lower Merion 44, Ridley 39 >> Freshman Lindsay Boyd powered the Green Raiders (0-5, 0-3) with a career-high 15 points. Dana D’Ambrosio chipped in with 10. Down 20 points midway through the third period, Ridley mounted a comeback effort to cut the deficit to three points, but it wasn’t enough.

Conestoga 53, Upper Darby 31 >> Emma Blewett had another nice game with 16 points in the loss. Gabby Liberio had seven points and Legend Edwards pulled down nine rebounds for the Royals (0-6, 0-4).

Katie Mayock scored 22 points for the Pioneers.

In the Ches-Mont League

Great Valley 42, Sun Valley 18 >> Maddie Michael led the way for the Vanguards with eight points.
