Pennsbury eases past overmatched Bensalem

Bensalem – You have to wonder what the right side of Pennsbury High School’s offensive line did to deserve Friday night. But regardless of whether Galen Snyder was trying to prove a point to them or reward them, everything turned out rosy for the Orange and Black.

Running almost exclusively behind the right side of the line, Pennsbury steamrolled host Bensalem, 52-12, on homecoming for the struggling Owls in a game delayed one hour by thunderstorms.

The Falcons, who are 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Suburban One League National Conference, scored two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to lead 30-0. Although the determined but undermanned Owls stopped them at the 1-yard line as time expired on the first half, Pennsbury recovered a Bensalem fumble to start the third quarter and scored a fifth touchdown soon after to take a 38-0 lead and trigger a continuous game clock.

Bensalem scored twice against Pennsbury’s second string defense, but the Falcons’ offensive subs answered with two scores of their own.

During the first half and the first series of the second half, halfback Daulton Hose racked up 180 yards on 18 carries. He was the unfortunate one who came up one yard short of paydirt at the end of the first half, but atoned by scoring on a four-yard run in the third.

Quarterback Mike Alley contributed 65 yards on nine carries, including a pair of five-yard touchdowns, while fullback Chris Rupprecht added 60 yards on nine carries. Rupprecht’s stat sheet included a five-yard touchdown and a pair of two-point conversions.

Rob Daly also got into the act with 51 yards on five carries, including a 25-yard touchdown.

As has become standard practice for the Falcons, who struggled in the kicking game earlier in the season, they attempted two-point conversions after each touchdown.

With the first team offense in the game, Pennsbury ran to the right side of the line about 25 times, compared to less than 10 to the left. Maurice Stukes played right tackle for the Falcons with Noah Smith at right guard and Jack Kenney at center.

As a team, the Falcons piled up 299 rushing yards in the first half and another 57 on the first series of the second half. The Falcons threw the ball just twice in the first half, with both falling incomplete, although Alley completed a two-point conversion pass to Vinnie Ratamess.

Bensalem struggled on offense with just 15 rushing yards and 22 passing in the first half. Pennsbury’s methodical running game piled up 17 first downs in the first half, compared to four for the Owls.
