OTD in 2012: Coatesville’s defense stops Wissahickon

In the quarterfinals of the 2012 District 1-4A playoffs, No. 9 Coatesville was rewarded with a home game after No. 16 Wissahickon upset No. 1 Downingtown East in the first round.

Coatesville got a three-and-out on the opening possession and then moved right down the field to take the lead on a four-yard touchdown run by Daquan Worley.

The Red Raiders added another TD on the first play of the second quarter when Emmett Hunt found Chris Jones for a 55-yard score.

Later in the quarter, Hunt was stripped at the Coatesville 15, setting Wissahickon up in the red zone. The Coatesville defense, led by Mike Boykin, Tyler Burke and Stephen Pawling, held tight and a 32-yard field goal was missed.

Hunt and Jones connected again for a nine-yard TD before the half and Coatesville led 21-0 at the break.

Wissahickon finally got on the board in the third quarter, but Hunt threw a 16-yard TD to Burke and Worley added another score on the ground to end the third quarter up, 35-7.

Jason Totaram added a defensive touchdown for Coatesville, who held Wissahickon to 142 rush yards after the Trojans racked up 307 the week before, against East.

Coatesville’s fortune continued, as No. 13 Neshaminy took down Central Bucks South, to give the Red Raiders another home game as a No. 9 seed in the semifinals.
