OTD in 2012: Coatesville wraps up regular season on fire

In the season finale of the 2012 regular season, Coatesville hosted Avon Grove in hopes of gaining a home playoff game, as well as getting a little help from West Chester Henderson.

Coming off a big win against Downingtown West, there was certainly a bit of a hangover for Coatesville’s offense. Fortunately, the defense and special teams was there to pick up the slack.

Daquan Worley led the charge with 122 rushing yards and a touchdown, and also registered a pick six.

Quarterback Emmett Hunt completed just one of eight passes, but it went for 64 yards to Chris Jones for a TD.

Jones also had a punt return for a touchdown. Dre Boggs only got one offensive touch, but returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Coatesville’s offense tallied just two TDs, but the four non-offensive scores led to a 42-13 rout of the Red Devils.

Down route 30 a few miles, Downingtown East survived Henderson, 6-3, to claim the Ches-Mont National Division title. East’s win also earned the Cougars the top seed with a 10-0 record. In the same quadrant of the District 1-4A bracket was Coatesville, who earned the No. 9 seed and drew Unionville in the first round.

The Red Raiders finished the season with six straight wins and were getting all the buzz heading into the postseason, and everyone around the area was dreaming of the rematch between East and Coatesville in the second round.

But as Lee Corso so famously says, “not so fast, my friend.”
