Berks at a glance: Week 3

Exeter 52, Garden Spot 26: Nick Sarangoulis ran for 119 yards and two scores as the host Eagles (3-0) pulled away from the Spartans with a 21-point third-quarter outburst.

Daniel Boone 38, Twin Valley 33: The Blazers (3-0) had an unexpectedly tough time with the Raiders (0-3) in a Berks crossover, needing a late interception from Jake Kuhn to preserve the narrow victory.

Reading 26, McCaskey 7: The host Red Knights got 137 and three touchdowns from Jai Whitlock to roll the Red Tornado and complete the second city series (lost to Harrisburg) since 2014’s revival with a 2-1 mark.

Blue Mountain 24, Pottsville 13: The Crimson Tide (0-3) were 12 minutes away from stopping a 49-game slide, but surrendered 17 unanswered fourth-quarter points to see the winless drought hit 50. Lucas Forbes had the go-ahead score for the Eagles on a 9-yard run, then later added a 27-yarder. Forbes had 173 yards on 18 carries.

Manheim Twp 42, Governor Mifflin 28: Blue Streaks’ QB Erik Benjamin torched the Mustangs (1-2) for five TDs on 19 of 32 passing worth 264 yards.

Berks Catholic 40, York Catholic 17: (see game story)

Conrad Weiser 59, Fleetwood 41: The Scouts (2-1) handed the host Tigers (2-1) their first defeat in a wild Berks crossover. The two teams combined for more than 1,100 yards of offense and were nearly dead-even (579 CW to 578 F). Koran Jordan ran for 229 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns for the winners; Luke Emge passed for 321 yards on 19 of 32 with four scores but was picked off twice in a losing effort.

Northern Lebanon 36, Hamburg 25: The Vikings’ Luke Funck rushed for 257 on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns to propel the visitors to victory over the Hawks (1-2).

Annville-Cleona 28, Schuylkill Valley 16: At Annville, the Little Dutchmen scored two first quarter touchdowns and were never seriously threatened in dropping the Panthers to 0-3.

Chichester 51, Kutztown 0: At Chichester, the Cougars (0-3) were shut out for the second straight week in a lopsided loss. The hosts outgained Kutztown 412-103.
