Backup QB Remish’s big moment rallies Methacton over Boyertown, 43-40

Very little went according to plan Friday night in the Methacton football team’s visit to Boyertown.

There was no reason to deviate in the final minute then.

After trailing by two touchdowns after a quarter and by 20 points in the third quarter, the Warriors staged a rally with 22 fourth-quarter points, punctuated by the 28-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Nick Remish to DJ Ballinger with 19 seconds remaining to stun Boyertown, 43-40, at the Bears’ Memorial Stadium.

Methacton improved to 5-2 (2-1 PAC Liberty) while Boyertown fell to 2-5 (1-2 PAC).

Remish played the hero after entering in the final minute in place of starter Kolby Howarth (13-for-25, 175 yards, 2 TDs; 1 rush TD), who was injured on a roughing the passer play in the final minute.

Methacton racked up 435 total yards and was remarkably balanced with 218 yards rushing and 217 yards passing. Ballinger was the leading rusher with 75 yards while Wesley Conover led the receiving with 5 catches for 96 yards.

Methacton’s rally spoiled the big nights of Boyertown rushers Anthony Famularo (81 yards, 3 TDs) and Cole Yesavage (23 carries for 137 yards and 2 TDs).

The Warriors came back from down 34-14 with 8:10 to go in the third quarter, beginning the rally on Conover’s 38-yard TD run at the 2:00 mark of the third.

Yesavage’s second touchdown came with 3:49 to play, giving Boyertown a 40-28 lead.

Methacton’s finishing flurry began with Howarth’s TD pass to Conover for 58 yards and the score with 2:41 remaining. After the Warriors’ defense forced a three-and-out, Methacton was off to the races again.

Howarth was knocked out of the game after a 4th-and-10 where his completed pass fell short of the first down but the roughing the passer penalty gave the Warriors a new opportunity. Remish was the architect of the winning drive from Methacton’s 46-yard line, completing a 14-yard pass to Conover, rushing for 12 yards for a first down before his 28-yard strike to Ballinger won it for the Warriors. Remish ran in the two-point conversion for good measure.
