Reporter Field Hockey Roundup: Upper Dublin’s Corners for Cancer raises more than $11K
It was field hockey for a great cause Saturday as Upper Dublin hosted Upper Moreland in the Cardinals’ Corners for Cancer game, a Play for the Cure event that raised more the $11,000 for the National Foundation for Cancer Research. The amount was the second-highest in the event’s 11-year history.
For the game, the Cardinals and Golden Bears finished the SOL American Conference contest in a 1-1 draw.
Jenn McCarry gave Upper Dublin (2-1-2, 1-1-2 conference) the 1-0 lead at 23:18 in the second half off a Lydia Casey assist. Upper Moreland (2-3-1, 1-2-1) pulled level with 4:14 remaining on Isabel Leiter’s goal assisted by Taylor Boone.
Golden Bears goalkeeper Bella Guarengi made 17 saves. Rhianna Gonzales had eight saves for UD.
Through its 11 years, Upper Dublin’s Corners for Cancer has raised almost $90,000.
Conestoga 4, Mount St. Joseph 3 (OT) >> Freshman Kate Galica scored the overtime winner as Conestoga edged visiting Mount St. Joseph for a nonleague victory.
Chloe Ziegler had two goals for the Pioneers (6-1-0, 4-2-0 Central League) while Carly Hynd handed out a pair of assists. Annie Hirshamm added a goal.
Mount (4-2-0, 3-1-0 AACA) got goals from Rory Williamson, Megan Maransky and Campbell Donovan.
The game was tied 2-2 at the half.
‘Stoga keeper Minna Gersbarch earned her first victory in net and finished with three saves. The Pioneers’ Lily Wolfe made a defensive save. Mount goalie Alyssa Brachelli had seven saves.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 7, Lower Merion 2 >> Ava Borkowski scored three times, Kaleigh Missimer had a goal and two assists and Plymouth Whitemarsh kept its perfect record intact with a nonleague win.
Livia Troung collected a pair of assists for the Patriots (5-0-0, 4-0-0 SOL American). Junior Darcy Miller scored her first varsity goal while Kayla Link and and Julia Roehm added a goal each. Hailey Copestick and Molly Lynch both recorded an assist while PW goalie Sarah Track made two saves.
The Colonials led 3-0 at halftime and pushed the lead to 5-0 before Lower Merion tallied its first goal.
