HS Roundup (Sept. 29-30): Perkiomen Valley’s Brown, Boyertown’s Knoblauch star in non-league boys soccer wins

BOYS SOCCER

Perkiomen Valley 4, Penncrest 1

PV came out strong behind first half goals from Nathan Brown, whose hat trick carried the Vikings to a non-league victory on Sept. 30.  Penncrest cut the deficit in half when James Mulholland converted a penalty kick. But Brown and Matteo LoRegio found the net in the second half to pull away. Christian Campbell and Cody Basilio had assists for undefeated PV.

Boyertown 3, Exeter 2

Macade Knoblauch starred by scoring all three Boyertown goals and the Bears scored a non-league road victory on Sept. 30. Ramzi Musallam had an assist. Josh Hole had a goal and assist for the Eagles. Brayden Risser made two saves for the Bears.

Northwestern Lehigh 2, Upper Perkiomen 1

NW Lehigh took control with two second-half goals by Matt Johnson and Upper Perk couldn’t pull off the upset against the reigning PIAA 2A champions. The Tribe’s score came via own goal.

Methacton 2, Springfield-Delco  0

Kristian Bauer (PK) and Logan Courtney scored in the second half to lift Methacton to a non-league victory on Sept. 30. Wyatt Stemler made four saves for the shutout.

Conrad Weiser 5, Daniel Boone 0

The Scouts scored four second-half goals and beat the Blazers on Sept. 30. CW goals came from Gavin Rapp (2), Bradley Harris, Julien Moll and Isaac McCracken. In goal for Boone, Tucker Griffin made three saves and Connor Bryan stopped one.

GIRLS SOCCER

Perkiomen Valley 3, Kennett 0

Gia Marciano’s goal four minutes in set the tone and led Perk Valley over Kennett in non-league play on Sept. 30.

Mia Milleo and Claire Tremba (assisted by Rain Boyd) also tallied for Perk Valley. Olivia Hulayew and Anna Mecouch combined for the clean sheet.

Methacton 1, Owen J Roberts 0

Methacton picked a great night to record its first shutout of the season, nabbing a PAC Liberty victory over Owen J. Roberts on Sept. 29 courtesy Aubrey Beaugard’s goal late in the first half.

Beaugard’s shot from distance, assisted by Mia Chan, came with 3:11 left in the first half. Freshman goalkeeper Anna Qawasmy made 7 saves for her first varsity shutout for Methacton (4-8)

OJR goalkeeper Abigail Smith made five saves.

West Chester East 1, Phoenixville 0

FIELD HOCKEY

Owen J. Roberts 11, Lower Merion 1

Owen J. Roberts put up 11 goals for the second straight game and routed Lower Merion in non-league play Saturday.

Maddie Tillou (assist), Olivia Sanseverino and Evie Wolters (2 assists) each had two goals and Sarah Englehardt scored a goal and two assists. Other scorers for OJR were Mira Smolij, Larissa Schell, Hadley Nicholas and Zoe McDonald.

Manheim Township 3, Boyertown 2

The Blue Streaks scored the game-winner with three minutes to play and Boyertown fell in a non-league matchup Saturday.

Hannah Ulrich opened Boyertown’s tally with help from Kendall Gilbert. The Bears led off a corner pass from Peyton Shellaway to Elise Eves in the third quarter but Manheim got on top late. Boyertown’s Addie Galianese had a strong performance in goal with 10 saves for the day.

Methacton 0, Oley Valley 0

Despite Oley holding a 26-3 advantage in penalty corners, Maddy McKenney and the Warriors blanked the Lynx and recorded an overtime tie on Sept. 30.

McKenney made 16 saves and Lily DeWan had a defensive save to lead Methacton’s effort.

Boyertown 5, Upper Merion 0

The Bears saw goals from Peyton Shellaway, Kendal Gilbert, Maya Brunner, Hannah Ulrich, and Elise Eves (Taylor Havrilla assist) in a PAC cross-divisional victory Friday.

Owen J. Roberts 11, Pottstown 0

Olivia Sanseverino had a team-high three goals and Evie Wolters, Mira Smolij and Kendall King scored two each as OJR powered past Pottstown in a PAC crossover game Friday.

Other goal scorers included Kendall King, Lanah Neil and Natalie Terlesky for the Wildcats (4-6 overall).

Methacton 7, Perkiomen Valley 0

Carmelo Maro played a role in five goals (3 goals, 2 assists) to help Methacton cruise past Perkiomen Valley in PAC Liberty play Friday.

Renee Blake had a pair of goals, Lily DeWan contributed a goal and assist. Also, Adrianna Hopple had a goal, Ceci Rehak and Lizzie Amun had an assist each while Maddy McKenney and Jill Reilley combined for the shutout in goal.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Downingtown East 3, Boyertown 2 (18-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 18-16)

Boyertown fell to the Cougars in a five-set non-league battle Saturday. Top performers for Boyertown were Abby Dornblaser with 15 kills, Lauren McKeon with 11 kills, Sabrina Falzone (24) and Kyra Neiswender (20) combining for 44 digs, and Sydney Scheck with 23 assists.

Methacton 3, Conestoga 0 (25-10, 25-13 and 25-22)

Methacton 3, Great Valley 0 (25-15, 25-17 and 25-14)

The Warriors swept their tri-match on Sept. 30 to improve to 11-2. Against Conestoga, Methacton was led by Makayla Batten with 8 kills and 4 blocks, Madison Roeger with 8 kills and Emma Shaffer with 5 kills and 5 aces. Against Great Valley, Methacton was led by Emma Shaffer with 9 kills and 4 aces and Caroline Welsh with 6 kills and 2 blocks.

Methacton 3, Pottsgrove 0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-23)

Methacton improved to 8-2 in the PAC (9-2 overall) with a win over Pottsgrove. The Warriors were led in kills by Kayla Ginther with 7, Emma Shaffer with 6 and Caroline Welsh with 5.
