Mercury roundup: PV boys soccer blanks Marple Newtown
Max Chamorro had a goal and an assist Friday as the Perkiomen Valley boys soccer team downed Marple Newtown, 3-0, in non-conference action.
Chamorro got the assist on Matt Holmes’ score in the 21st minute, then added a tally of his own in the 68th minute. AJ Hansen rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 69th minute while Alessandro Vennettilli and Josh Moyer combined for the shutout in goal.
Harriton 2, Methacton 1 >> Harriton won its opener over Methacton 2-1 on a penalty kick with two minutes left in regulation by Alexander Kades. Down 1-0 at half, Methacton pulled even from a free kick that ended with a goal by Logan Rambo assisted by Ryan Sheridan.
Goalkeeping duties were performed by Methacton’s Brian Desvars with 1 save, and Harriton’s Zach Schulman with 2 saves.
Spring-Ford 1, Central Bucks East 1 >> The Rams and Patriots traded second-half goals on the way to a season-opening draw. Aiden Hudon finished a Colin Trainor corner kick for Spring-Ford’s score. Goalie Ray Fortebuono made eight saves for the Rams.
Daniel Boone 3, Upper Perkiomen 0 >> Caleb Rahn scored twice and Aden Slifer added a third as the Blazers downed the Indians in each team’s opener. Kevin Morris notched an assist for DB.
Great Valley 1, Phoenixville 0 >> After a scoreless 70 minutes of back-and-forth action, the Patriots got the eventual winning goal when Miguel Fuentes knocked in a Matthew Wellener corner kick.
Quintin Wrabley posted the shutout in goal for GV, making five saves.
