Needs scores 100th career goal as TCA rolls
Evan Needs is on pace to become the most prolific soccer goal scorer in Delaware County history.
The Christian Academy senior earned his 100th tally in his team’s 8-2 victory over Cumberland Christian in Tri-State Christian Conference action Thursday afternoon.
Needs registered hat trick to end the day with 101 career goals. He is No. 2 in county history and the third player to reach the 100-goal plateau, joining Delco Christian’s Keiran Keelan (115) and Kevin Silva of The Haverford School (101). With five games remaining in the regular season and the conference playoff tournament on the horizon, Needs has a great opportunity to surpass Keelan’s record.
Brit Haseltine paced all players with four goals and Needs added two assists for the Crusaders (11-0-1, 9-0-0).
In the Central League:
Upper Darby 2, Garnet Valley 1: Jonah Thornton scored a one-timer off a pass from Terrance Weh in the 75th minute to give the Royals the lead and eventual ‘˜W’. Upper Darby (6-10) rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Goalkeeper John Thornton stopped 10 shots. Evan Williams accounted for the Jaguars’ goal.
Marple Newtown 1, Radnor 0: George Lambritsios scored 1:20 into the opening half and the Tigers (8-7, 6-4) never looked back. Michael Allado assisted on Lambritsios’ 13th goal in 10 league tilts.
Josh Gotlib turned aside five shots in net for the shutout.
Radnor was shut out for the fifth straight game, including the fourth time by a 1-0 score.
Strath Haven 3, Harriton 2: Early in the second overtime period, Strath Haven’s Evan Savoth fired a missile from about 10-yards out that eluded the grasp of Harriton keeper Lucas Serlin and gave the Panthers (9-5-1, 5-5-0) a must-needed victory. The Rams scored twice in the latter portion of the second half to force OT.
Penncrest 0, Conestoga 0: With first place in the Central League on the line …nobody could score. The Pioneers can clinch the title outright with a win over Upper Darby next Tuesday.
Goalies Liam Thomas (14 saves) and Kees Schipper (four saves) were both excellent manning their respective nets.
Springfield 3, Haverford 1: The Cougars took sole possession of first place and can claim the league championship with a win and a Conestoga tie or loss next Tuesday. Nick Jannelli, Andrew Astrino and Danny Korinth all found the back of the net and goalie Tyler Ranieri made two saves for Springfield (11-4, 8-2).

In the Del Val League:
Penn Wood 3, Academy Park 2: The Patriots’ John Mansaray came through with two goals in the second half, including the winner with eight minutes left on the clock. Abrahim and Samiika Kromah tallied for the Knights. Kenny Ngama made six big saves in the win.
Interboro 6, Chichester 2: Diego Lopez exploded for four goals, including three in the first half, to lead the Bucs to victory. Austin Wilson scored his 13th goal of the year in the losing effort for Chi.
