Reporter/Times Herald Baseball Roundup: PW’s Joe Jaconski homers, has 4 hits in win over New Hope-Solebury

Plymouth Whitemarsh 13, New Hope-Solebury 3 (5) >> Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Joe Jaconski capped a 4-for-4 day at the plate with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, the North Carolina commit collecting four RBIs and three runs scored as the Colonials kept their perfect record intact Thursday.

Jesse Jaconski was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Joe Redmond went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored for PW (9-0, 5-0 SOL Liberty), which has posted 10 runs or more in five of its last six games.

New Hope-Solebury (5-5, 3-2 SOL Freedom) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first but the Colonials got a run in the bottom of inning then went ahead with a three-run second. PW plated six runs in the the third, the last three coming home on Luke Caucci’s three-RBI double that made it 10-3.

The Colonial tallied three more in the fourth on a Redmond’s RBI double and Joe Jaconski’s two-run shot to right.

PW starting pitcher Tom Yanoshik got the win with a complete-game effort. He gave up three runs – all earned – on two hits, walked three, hit one batter and struck out two.

Upper Moreland 12, Wissahickon 4 >> Ryan Lennox collected five RBIs as Upper Moreland jumped out to 5-0 lead after the bottom then pulled away in the later innings – scoring three in the fifth then four in the sixth – for their second straight win.

Lennox was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Shawn Townsend went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs while Charles Jones was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run for the Golden Bears (4-5, 2-3 SOL Freedom), who registered a total of 14 hits.

Josh Henderson finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run and Connor English scored three runs. Starting pitcher Greg Wiley got the win on the mound for UM, allowing two runs – both earned over 4 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out 10.

After Upper Moreland loaded the bases with one out in bottom of the first, four straight batters brought home runs. Jones plated the first with an RBI single while a Kaleb Powell walk made it 2-0. Henderson hit a two-RBI double to left with Ryan Lennox’s RBI ground out putting the Bears up five.

Wissahickon scored a run each in the third and fifth to cut the margin to 5-2 but in UM’s half of the fifth Lenox hit a two-RBI single then scored when Sean McAfee reached on a two-out error.

In the top of the sixth Kasey Weiss drove in a run with his triple to right then came home on a passed ball to make it 8-4. But the Golden Bears added four to its lead in the bottom of the frame on a Jones RBI single, Nate O’Connor RBI sac fly and Lennox’s two-RBI double.

Hatboro-Horsham 11, Lower Moreland 4 >> Ryan Toporowski went 2-for-4 with two RBI triples and two runs scored as Hatboro-Horsham got its offense going late, scoring nine runs in the final three innings to earn the win in the SOL nondivision contest.

Nick Katherine was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs while Jimmy Tooley was 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and scored three times for the Hatters (4-6, 2-3 SOL Liberty)

Lower Moreland’s Jack Doneker went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Robbie Link hit a home run as the Lions dropped their second straight. Matt Dymowski finished 2-for-4 while Mike Pennisi collected two RBIs.

Hatboro-Horsham scored two runs in the top of the first, Lower Moreland responded by taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the inning and the score stayed that way until the Hatters plated four in the top of the fifth. Toporowski tied the game with his RBI triple then came home on a passed ball to put HH ahead 4-3. A Trey Porter two-RBI single made it 6-3.

Link led off the Lower Moreland’s half of the fifth with his home run to left. The Hatters, however, went up 8-4 in the top of the fifth as Toporowski hit another RBI triple and then scored on a steal of home. HH posted three more in the seventh on a Cole Fisher RBI double, Tooley RBI single and Katherine RBI double.

Fisher started on the mound for the Hatters, claiming the win after giving up four runs – all earned – on seven hits in six innings. He walked one, hit one batter and struck out nine.

Souderton 9, Truman 5 >> Souderton flipped the contest in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs to erase a 4-1 deficit as the Indians snapped a two-game losing skid.

Luke Pollock (4-4, 2-3 SOL Colonial) hit a triple and scored twice for Souderton while Justin Dicesare had two runs scored and Jacob Horton doubled.

The Indians loaded the bases with one out in the fifth and cut their deficit to 4-2 with a run after Dante Bruno reached on an error. Alex Morales’ RBI single to left made it 4-3 with Luke DeSpain tying the game with an RBI sacrifice fly. Bruno scored for a 5-4 Big Red lead when Ryan Kagarise reached on an error.

Souderton again had the bases loaded after an error on an Isaac Frye grounder. An error on Shanley Wall’s fly ball to right cleared the bases and put the Indians up 8-4. Souderton added a run in the sixth before Truman scored one in the top of the seventh.

James Baker was 2-for-4 with a double for Truman (2-9, 1-4 SOL Patriot).

Indians starting pitcher Zach Crouthamel struck out 10 in earning the win. He allowed four runs – two earned – on five hits, hit one batter and walked one in five innings.

Truman scored three runs in the top of the second while a Kagarise RBI ground in the bottom of the inning made it 3-1. The Tigers took a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Joey Wright scored a wild pitch.

Pennsbury 8, Pennridge 4 >> Charlie Evans and Ryan Zuckerman both hit homer runs, Justin Mitrovich was 2-for-4 and struck out 10 over six innings as Pennridge doubled up visiting Pennridge for a SOL nondivision win.

Dan Ciotti went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored while Evans finished 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Falcons (5-4, 2-3 SOL Patriot) who have won two straight and three of their last four.

Nic Chellew was 2-for-3 with a double and an run scored for Pennridge (2-6, 1-4 SOL Colonial), which lost its fifth consecutive game.

Mitrovic gave up two runs – both earned – on six hits and one walk in earning the pitching victory.

Evans gave Pennsbury a 1-0 with a leadoff home in the bottom of the first with the Falcons going up 3-0 in the second on Ciotti’s two-RBI single.

Pennridge pulled within 3-2 in the top of the fourth on RBI singles from Bobby Croyle and Tim Mastrogiovanni but in the bottom of the frame an Evan RBI triple and Zuckerman’s two-run homer to center pushed Pennsbury lead to 6-3.

The Falcons tacked on two more runs in the fifth on Limongelli’s RBI single and a Alex Martin RBI sac fly. In the top of the seven, a Carson Wells RBI sac fly and Ashton McCloskey’s one-out bases-loaded walk made it 8-4 but the next two batters were retired on a strikeout then a pop out.

Upper Dublin 5, William Tennent 1 >> After losing its first seven, Upper Dublin has now won back-to-back games, Cardinals scoring twice in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead then adding three more runs in the sixth.

Leo Soriano had two RBIs for Upper Dublin (2-7, 0-5 SOL Liberty) while starting pitcher David Sharp earned the win, allowing one run – earned – on two hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked five, hit one batter and struck out six.

Aiden McCarthy picked up the save, coming in with two on and one out in the top of the seventh and got a ground out and pop out to seal UD’s SOL nondivision victory.

Chris Colella and Josh Nydick each had a single for William Tennent (4-4-1, 4-1-0 SOL Freedom), who dropped its second straight. DJ Dickson drove in the Panthers’ lone run with an RBI ground out in the top of the first.

Consecutive RBI doubles from Ethan Madnick and Tristan Cairnes in the bottom of the third gave Upper Dublin a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Soriano hit a two-RBI double to left to put the Cards up 4-1 then scored UD’s fifth run when Madnick reached on an error with two outs and the bases loaded.

Abington 12, Cheltenham 0 (5) >> Luke Sydlowski was 2-for-3, hit a solo home run in the top of the second and scored three runs while Ryan Van Buren and Jameson Giannattasio combined to throw a two-hit, five-inning shutout as Abington claimed its third win in a row.

Alex Dardaris went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a runs scored, Anthony Ehly was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run and Henry Tyler finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Galloping Ghosts (5-4, 3-2 SOL Liberty), who led 4-0 after the first inning.

Abington went up 5-0 in the second on Sydlowski’s homer before scoring four in the fourth and three in fifth.

Ghosts starting pitcher Van Buren went four innings, gave up two hits, no walks and struck out eight. Giannattasio recorded a strikeout as he retied Cheltenham (0-7, 0-5 SOL Freedom) in order in the bottom of the fifth.

Cody Frazier had a double and two RBIs for Abington while John Dzielawa Colin Hamsher both scored two runs.

Council Rock South 5, Central Bucks West 1 >> Ryan Bauerle was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Council Rock South broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth then tacked on an insurance run in the sixth to collect an SOL nondivision victory.

Joe Purcell was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, giving the Golden Hawks (4-3, 2-2 SOL Patriot) the lead for good with his RBI single in the fourth. South added another run after an error on Ben Haines’ fly ball then went up 3-1 on a Jon Pinciotti RBI single.

Bauerle made it 5-1 with his RBI single in the sixth.

Michael Bukowski was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored for CB West (3-6, 3-2 SOL Colonial), which lost its second straight.

South starting pitcher Matt Camp threw five innings to earn the win, giving up one run – unearned – on three hits, walked four and struck out four. Trey Sajeski threw two scoreless innings for the save, allowing no hits with one walk and one strikeout.

The Golden Hawks grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Ryan Wheet RBI single in the bottom of the first. The Bucks knotted things in the top of the fourth as Bukowski scored when Robb Watson reached on an error.
