Interboro the top seed in District One tourney

All season, Interboro has sought to challenge itself outside of the Del Val League, to prove that its gaudy win total is no fluke.

The District One seedings have rewarded them.

The Bucs earned the No. 1 overall seed in the District One Class AAAA bracket, revealed Thursday night. They get one of six first-round byes (a group which does not include either the Central or Ches-Mont League champions) and will await the winner of No. 17 West Chester East and No. 16 Penncrest in Wednesday’s second round.

Also earning first-round hosting honors is Marple Newtown, which was penciled in as the 14th seed and gets a visit from No. 19 Spring-Ford. Central League champ Conestoga earned the No. 10 seed, hosting No. 23 Unionville. The Pioneers made the PIAA title game last year.

Hitting the road in Class AAAA are No. 20 Haverford (to No. 13 Hatboro-Horsham) and No. 24 Garnet Valley (to No. 9 Central Bucks East). Harriton, up from Class AAA last year where it made the PIAA final, is the 26th and final seed in the field, which scrapped the old North/South format. Five teams qualify for states in Class AAAA.

The Class AAA tournament begins next Tuesday with an All-Delco pairing between No. 2 Chichester and No. 7 Sun Valley, the final qualifier in the field. The winner gets the survivor of No. 6 Pope John Paul II and No. 3 Radnor. One team from AAA makes states.

Delco Christian has earned the No. 3 seed in the Class A tournament and a date with No. 6 Plumstead Christian Tuesday. One team qualifies for the PIAA Class A tournament.
