North Penn uses fast start to roll past Quakertown

TOWAMENCIN — Just 10 seconds in, North Penn’s offense gained the edge.

“You never see something like that coming,’ said the Knights’ Kevin McKenna, who very quickly gave his team a 1-0 lead versus Quakertown on Tuesday, “but it’s always great to get a chance like that, especially early in the game.’

Very early.

The Knights’ attack scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and went on to earn a solid 6-0 victory over the Panthers in a Suburban One League Continental Conference boys soccer game at North Penn.

McKenna scored twice, as did Matthew Richardson, as the Knights evened their record to 2-2-0 (2-1-0 in the conference). Several reserves got playing time, as the game was well in hand due to NP’s quick-strike offense.

“Only good things can come from a breakout game like this,’ said McKenna, a senior striker. “We hadn’t been scoring that much, but to get a good game under our belt, it’ll help.’

McKenna also set up Colin Jerome for a goal and Liam Parker converted on a penalty kick in the second half. The Knights’ offense ran nice and smooth, with a road game at rival Central Bucks West coming up on Thursday.

“We weren’t happy to start 1-2, but we lost to two very good teams in Archbishop Wood and CB East,’ Knights coach Paul Duddy said. “But getting goals this early is a good sign. We have to prove ourselves against the rest of our conference and see where we are.’
