Recap
Trailing 5-4 entering the fifth inning, Pennsbury went wild, turning a deficit into a mercy rule affair, an 11-run inning powering past No. 24 seed Perkiomen Valley in the first round of the District 1-6A playoffs.
The Vikings took full advantage of a slow start from Pennsbury pitcher Laney Freiband with a three-run double by Addison Smith in the second and a two-run home run that hit high on the Pennsbury (17-4) scoreboard by Audrey Powers in the third pushed upset-minded Perk Valley out to a 5-1 lead.
PV starter Bella Reedy exited after three innings (four runs on six hits, two Ks).
Freiband hit a pair of home runs and went 4-for-4 with four RBI for Pennsbury. Hannah DeFinis also homered (4-for-4, three RBI), a walk-off two-run blast sending the Falcons into the next round, where they will face No. 8 Ridley on Wednesday.
Perkiomen Valley concluded its season 12-9. The VIkings’ senior class included Ava Boccelli, Sophia Coleman, Olivia Hopkins, Callie Martiello, Kaylee Molitor and Jenna Russo.
