Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup: York’s grand slam, Zimerman’s homer lift Souderton over Truman

Souderton 8, Truman 3 >> Souderton’s Kayley York erased a 1-0 deficit with a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning, Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run home run as the Indians plated four more in the seventh and earned their fifth win in a row Thursday in the Suburban One League nondivision matchup.

Sierra Ripka was 2-for-4 with a a run scored for Souderton (9-2, 3-2 SOL Colonial) with Abby Burns struck out 12 in a complete-game victory, allowing three runs – one earned – on four hits and no walks.

Mara McKeon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a single for Truman (5-3, 2-2 SOL Patriot),  which had its three-game win streak snapped.

McKeon gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with her RBI single in the bottom of the first and the scoreline stayed that way until the sixth. Megan Kummery led off the inning with a single, Burns doubled to left and Riley York drew a walk to load the bases. After a force out at home on a fielder’s choice, Kayley York connected on a grand slam to center to put Big Red up three.

Truman cut its deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth on Jalecia Blackston’s RBI double and Paige Gonzales – courtesy running for Blackston – scoring on an error.

Souderton, however, answered with a four spot in its half of the seventh. With runners on second and third with no out, Burns hit an RBI sacrifice fly to make  it 5-3. After Riley York’s single Zimmerman pushed the lead to 8-3 with her three-run homer to left.

William Tennent 7, Upper Dublin 6 >> Upper Dublin scored four times in the top of the fifth to grab a 6-4 lead but William Tennent rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge the Cardinals in the SOL nondivision contest.

Mackenzie Clee was 2-for-4 with two triples, an RBI and scored twice for the Panthers (3-1, 1-0). Clee pulled Tennent even 6-6 in the sixth with an RBI triple then came home for the winning run on an error.

Tennent’s Sarah Cummins tripled and scored in the sixth while Ella Mednick hit a two-RBI single in the fourth.

Brianna Kesslick went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Upper Dublin (3-5, 1-4 SOL Liberty), which had a two-game win streak snapped. Lauren Carboni had a two-RBI to tie the game 4-4 in the fifth.

With the bases loaded and one out in the fifth, Kesslick was hit by a pitch to put UD up 5-4 while Anna Levin’s RBI fielder’s choice made it a two-run game.

William Tennent went up 2-0 with a run in both the first and second before the Cards pulled even by plating two in the top of the fourth. The Panthers twice in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.

Abington 18, Cheltenham 3 (3) >> Abington’s Lauren Everitt was 4-for-4 with a double and five RBIs as the Galloping Ghosts scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first, added seven more in the second and ended a five-game losing streak with a three-inning SOL nondivision win.

Aneesa Rorher went 2-for-2 with two doubles, four RBIs and scored three runs while Jess Sokolski finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two run scored for Abington (2-5, 0-4 SOL Liberty).

The Ghosts’ Ellie Pierce hit a double, collected two RBIs, Jenna Doyle had a double and two runs scored and Julia Bruestle scored twice
