Reporter/Times Herald Softball Roundup: Pennsbury edges North Penn; Souderton wins 4th straight

Pennsbury 4, North Penn 3 >> The matchup of Suburban One League unbeatens went to host Pennsbury Tuesday, the Falcons taking a 4-0 lead after four innings then holding off North Penn’s rally.

Pennsbury (6-0, 4-0 SOL Patriot) went up 3-0 in the bottom of the third on a three-run home run then pushed its advantage to four with a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.

Bri Wilmont led off North Penn’s half of the fifth with a home run to right. In the top of the sixth, Sarah Sabocsik connected on a two-run homer to pull the Knights (6-1, 5-0 SOL Colonial) to within a run.

Annabelle Smink and Mady Volpe followed with back-to-back singles to put two on with no outs but the Falcons stayed ahead thanks to consecutive strikeouts and a force out on third on a fielder’s choice. North Penn went down in order in the seventh.

Gianna Cimino was 2-for-3 for the Knights while Julia Shearer went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Volpe struck out 12, allowed four runs – four earned – on seven hits and walked six.

Souderton 10, Council Rock North 3 >> Abby Burns homered in the fourth inning while in the circle struck out 12 as Souderton earned its fourth straight win.

Burns was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and picked up the pitching win, allowing three runs – all earned – on four hits and a walk in six innings.

Taylor Nelson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Sierra Ripka was 2-for-4 and scored twice for Souderton (8-2, 3-2 SOL Colonial ), which brought home five runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

Council Rock North cut its deficit to 6-2 in the top of the fourth on Kat Hastings’ two-run home run. Souderton answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Burns led off with her homer, Kayley York connected on an RBI single while a Brooke Scotti RBI fielder’s choice made it 9-2.

Megan Kummery’s RBI double had Souderton up 10-2 in the fifth. CR North (4-3, 2-2 SOL Patriot) scored a run in the sixth on a Sophia Shields RBI single.

Taylor Gearhart scored twice for Council Rock North, which lost its third straight.

Souderton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second then added five more in the third. Ripka scored the first on a wild pitch while Riley York’s RBI sac fly made it 3-0. A Nelson RBI single and Gail Hartman’s two-RBI single had Big Red up 6-0.

Truman 11, Pennridge 8 >> Emily Kuvulic and Courtney Nau both hit two-run home runs as Truman built an 8-0 after three innings while a late charge by Pennridge came up short in the SOL nondivision matchup.

Pennridge’s Catelyn Thursh hit two home runs and finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs as the Rams (3-5, 1-4 SOL Colonial) who plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 10-4. Truman tacked on a run int the top of the seventh before the Pennridge scored four in the bottom of the inning of a Chloe Coughenour leadoff homer and Thrush’s three-run blast.

Kuvulic also doubled as she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Nau was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Tigers (5-2, 2-2 SOL Patriot), who won their third straight. Hannah Smith was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored with Jada Moran going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Nau connected on a two-run homer as Truman took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Kuvulic’s two-run homer was part of the Tiger’s four-run third that put the visitors up eight.

Thursh led off the bottom of the fourth with her first home run to put Pennridge on the scoreboard. Truman increased their to 10-1 in the top  of the sixth as Kuvulic hit an RBI double and scored on a wild pitch.

Reagan Bauman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Rams, which have lost three of their last four. Cassandra Schillo hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

Hatboro-Horsham 17, Upper Moreland 1 (6) >> Hatboro-Horsham had eight players collected at least two hits, Kayla Tauber leading the way with four as the Hatters totaled 23 hits in rolling to a six-inning SOL nondivision win.

Tauber went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored, Tess Kearney was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored while Amya Lundy finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a runs scored for the Hatters (5-0, 4-0 SOL Liberty).

Kristin Meyers was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Marissa Rapino went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as HH plated six runs in the third to for a 7-0 lead. After a run each in the fourth and fifth, the Hatters scored eight in the sixth to go up 17-0.

HH’s Abby Waeltz was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Megan Miller went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored while Alyssa Tooley was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored and also earning the pitching victory – allowing just one hit, striking out four and walking three in four shutout innings.

Liz Santry had an RBI double in the seventh for Upper Moreland (4-2, 3-0 SOL Freedom), which had its three-game win streak snapped.
