Mercury Softball Roundup (April 19): Scogna outduels Croak, lifts Spring-Ford to 2-1 win over Upper Perk

Spring-Ford 2, Upper Perkiomen 1 >> A pitchers’ duel between S-F’s Jules Scogna and UP’s Taylor Croak went the way of the Rams on Madi Walsh’s RBI double in the sixth inning of a PAC crossover win.

Spring-Ford scored a pair in the sixth on a Bre Peck single to score Noelle Reid. Peck was then plated on Walsh’s two-bagger.

Scogna struck out 11 and walked one in her complete-game four hitter.

Upper Perk threatened in the seventh, scoring a run on a Sierra Fretz double to score Dani Freer, but Scogna got a pop out and strikeout to end the game.

Croak took the hard-luck loss, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.

Boyertown 17, Pottstown 0 >> An 11-run first inning set the tone for the Bears in wrapping up Monday’s three-inning PAC crossover win over the Trojans.

Gianna Diruggieri and Rachel Moser both went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Mackenzie Jani went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Alexis Laboy tossed three shutout innings, striking out three and allowing just three hits.

Ariana Gilmore, Haley Haas and Jailyn Hampton tallied hits for Pottstown.

Owen J. Roberts 13, Upper Merion 0 >> The Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back in Monay’s five-inning PAC crossover win over the Vikings.

Sam Walsh tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits. She also swung a big bat, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Allie Daubert homered and drove in two runs and Natalie Alldred tripled for OJR. Jordan Sylvia added a two-hit day.

Vanessa Hutchinson doubled for Upper Merion.

Perkiomen Valley 10, Pope John Paul II 0 >> Sam Sciarra threw a five-inning no-hitter and Sam Corey hit a three-run double as part of a 3-for-3 day in the Vikings’ crossover win.

Chloe Rupe was also 3-for-3 and Kinsey Moses and Abby Souder had two hits apiece.

Sciarra struck out three and walked two.

Methacton 11, Pottsgrove 1 >> Three-hit games from Caitlin Woolbert, Caraline Newman and Serena Goodridge fueled the Warriors’ 13-hit attack in a six-inning PAC crossover win.

Newman and Goodridge both doubled and homered while Tori Bockrath had a double and three RBI and Nicole Timko had a triple drove in two.
Brianna Keenan got the pitching wins, allowing five hits and a run with four strikeouts.

Avery Gleason hit a home run for the Falcons.

Daniel Boone 7, Exeter 4 >> The Blazers’ battery dealt the big blows as catcher Amber Williams and pitcher Dani Hayes homered in Boone’s Berks I win.

Williams had three RBI and Hayes allowed four runs on five hits for the win in the circle. Grace Miller had two doubles and two RBI for the Blazers (3-0, 6-1), who were boosted by a four-run first inning.
