Sorrentino, Upper Darby hold off Ridley to stay unbeaten

A four-run bottom of the fourth inning proved to be the difference for Upper Darby Wednesday night in its 4-3 Central League victory over Ridley.

Brooke Jones drove in two runs to put the undefeated Royals (13-0) on top, 4-0, after Sam Witmer and Rebecca Sorrentino each collected an RBI.

Jones was 2 for 3 and Witmer was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Sorrentino pitched the win after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three.

Ridley battled back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Leigh Ann Jenkins, who took the loss from the circle, had two singles and three RBIs. Mel Malseed was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Springfield 7, Strath Haven 3 >> All-Delco Tori DePietro powered the Cougars by hitting 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs to pace the Cougars.  Sheridan Hedrick was 2 for 2 with a double and Ashley Scarpato doubled and tripled. Nikki DePietro added two singles and Victoria Ciasullo had a two-bagger for Springfield (11-3, 10-3)

Tori DePietro struck out from the mound en route to the win. Springfield put the game out of reach with a four-spot in the top of the seventh.

Leading Strath Haven at the plate was Sophia Bolinger, who finished 3 for 4 with a double. Emma Cormican contributed two hits for the Panthers.

Haverford 9, Radnor 2 >> Madison Lane was 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs for the Fords, who pounded out 18 hits. Heather Lazer was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Lindsay Moran singled, tripled and scored three runs. Jessica Epstein earned the win from the circle.

Freshman Audrey Rosenblum rapped two hits, including a double, for Radnor.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Agnes Irwin 16, Germantown Academy 3 >> Lily Zelov slammed two home runs and collected five RBIs to lead the Owls to victory on the road. Paige DiLullo, who pitched five innings for the win, had three RBIs.

In nonleague play:

Christian Academy 22, Westtown School 0 >> The Crusaders scored 16 runs in the bottom of second inning and won it in three. Julia Lee paced an 11-hit attack with two doubles and three RBIs. Carly Ryle pitched an abridged no-hitter.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Avon Grove 8, Sun Valley 2 >> The Vanguards (3-12) managed to squeak out two runs and four hits against Avon Grove’s Maggie Balint, one of the top pitchers in the area. Amber Michael was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Mackenzie Lewis singled and scored a run in the loss.
