SOFTBALL: Council Rock South nips Pennsbury, Neshaminy blanks Truman
FAIRLESS HILLS >> The Lady Falcons continued to struggle in Suburban One National League (SONL) play in a 3-2 loss Tuesday, April 19 at home to visiting Council Rock South. Dropping a contest in which it recorded nine hits, Pennsbury is now 2-7.
According to Golden Hawks head coach Greh Heydet, it is South’s first win over the Falcons in the history of the series.
Pennsbury left nine runners on base while the Hawks left only four.
Winning pitcher Stephanie Andreoli made sure a lot of those runners for the Falcons stayed where they were, striking out pitcher Alyssa Hileman with the sacks jammed in the first inning and retiring leadoff hitter Sydney Jakimowicz on a grounder with runners at the corners in the fourth inning to escape that frame no damage done.
CR South junior Melanie Wilkinson (2-for-3) hit a two-run home run for the Hawks in the second inning and Andreoli singled home the winning run with two on and two out in the fifth.
Pennsbury designated hitter Arden Rabiger slapped an RBI double for the Falcons’ first run in the fifth inning and Pennsbury scored its only other run in the sixth when outfielder Olivia Mauro raced home from third base on a wild pitch in the sixth. The Falcons scored their second run with nary a hit as Mauro reached second with no outs on a two balls dropped by CR South.
Pennsbury got leadoff batter Carly Parsons on base in the seventh on another Hawks’ fielding miscue but could not get her home as Andreoli induced a popup, a ground-out and a foul-out to end the game in her team’s favor.
With the win, CR South pushes to 4-2, overall, 3-1 in the SONL. The Hawks face unbeaten Neshaminy on Thursday.
