SOFTBALL PAC-10 ROUNDUP: Methacton falls, Phoenixville scores big win
Methacton’s softball team dropped its non-league home opener to Hatboro-Horsham Thursday, 5-2.
The Warriors were done in by the Hatters’ five-run opening at-bat. After that early outburst, Methacton pitcher Megan Stauffer (11 hits, four strikeouts, one walk) settled in. Aided by solid defense behind her, Stauffer held Hatboro scoreless the rest of the way.
Offensively for the locals, DP Aubrey Seal was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Sam Weil-Kaspar was 2-for-3 with the other RBI.
Hatboro-Horsham’s Taylor Sciubba had a commanding effort in the circle, tossing a complete game while scattering seven hits and striking out nine. Dee Moyer and Rachel Carney led the Hatters with three hits apiece, with Kyleigh Dineen finishing with two hits and an RBI.
Phoenixville 18, Academy Park 0 >> The Phantoms flashed mid-season form in their non-league game with the Trojans, bringing the 10-run rule into effect with help from a 10-run third.
Kelly Knapp (two RBI) and Jamie Deni each went 3-for-3 to lead Phoenixville’s 13-hit offense, which got three RBI from Liberty Allain and two apiece from Lainey Michaud and Ainsley
McQuiston. Winning pitcher Jess Eldridge, who helped her cause by hitting safely twice, threw one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts over five innings.
