Mercury roundup (Sept. 19): Boyertown field hockey squeaks past Upper Perkiomen

FIELD HOCKEY

Boyertown 3, Upper Perkiomen 2

Highlights: Hannah Ulrich scored the game-winner for the Bears in the third quarter off a feed from Mary Catherine in PAC Crossover action. Kendal Gilbert scored off a Peyton Shellaway rebound within the first two minutes of the game, putting Boyertown up 1-0 initially. The Tribe responded with back-to-back goals before the Bears tied it with an equalizer from a corner shot from Ulrich, Alex Bliss on the assist.

Owen J. Roberts 8, Norristown 0

Zoe McDonald (assist) scored a hat trick for the Wildcats in a PAC Liberty win over Norristown. Evie Wolters (assist) buried a pair of goals and tallied one assist. Maddie Tillou (assist), Mira Smolij and Olivia Sanseverino added a goal each and Gabby White made an assist. Owen J. Roberts commanded a 26-2 advantage in shots on goal and 11-0 advantage in corner opportunities. Brandis Baylor came up with six saves for the Eagles and Julia Cutrone had one for the Wildcats.

Daniel Boone 8, Reading 0

Laura Camburn, Liv Welker, Marlee Fetrow (two assists) and Taylor Williams all buried two goals each for the Blazers in a shutout win over Reading. Haley Wagner, Marlee Fetrow, Kayla Nester and Ava West all added a goal each. Courtney Stevens tallied an assist as well while Morgan Hutchinson recorded 15 saves for Reading.

GIRLS SOCCER

Methacton 3, Boyertown 1

Harper Glennon opened the scoring for the Bears with 15:08 to go in the first half, but three Warriors goals from there saw Methacton to the finish. Kendall Ricca evened the score with four minutes to go before halftime on a Maddy Washburn assist. Aubrey Beaugard then scored another goal unassisted from a corner with 13:12 left in the game. Beaugard added insurance for Methacton with 1:22 left on a right-footed blast from 20 yards out. Anna Qawasmy made six saves for the Warriors while Bears keeper Ciera Cameron matched that with six saves herself.

Highlights: Addison Hertzog paced Twin Valley’s offense with 17 assists, four aces, a kill, dig and two blocks. Jordyn Robinette logged 10 kills, nine digs and five aces. Casey Levan posted seven kills, served six aces and made five digs. Mikayla Reihl had five kills, two aces, two digs and a block.

Olivia Darrohn tallied 10 assists and three digs. Madeleine Scherzer put up six kills, two digs and an ace for the Blazers.
