Roundup: Boyertown softball handles Haverford 3-1 in District 1-6A second round

The No. 12 seed Bears made the most of a three-run second inning and Ella Hurter and Kyra Neiswender combined on a five-hitter to send Boyertown past No. 5 Haverford in a District 1-6A second round game Wednesday.
The Bears will play North Penn in the quarterfinals at 4 p.m. Friday.
Lindsay Mathias (2-for-4) hit a two-run double after Hailey Schildt’s RBI single in the crucial second inning.
Hurter struck out nine and allowed two hits in five innings before Neiswender got a two-inning save where she allowed three hits and struck out one.
Also at the plate for Boyertown (17-6), Jenna Fox and Schildt had two hits apiece.
Baseball
Downingtown West 8, Boyertown 4
The Whippets built a 4-0 lead through two innings and went on to knock off the No. 22 seed Bears in a District 1-6A second round game Wednesday.
No. 6 seed Downingtown led 8-1 before the Bears managed three runs in the seventh.
Gavin Trainer and Easton Albert (2 RBI) had two hits each for Boyertown.
Quinn Henicle homered for D-West and Brett Connolly was 3-for-4 (triple) with an RBI.
Drew Turner struck out 11 and allowed one run on four hits over 6 innings for the pitching win. Connor Moyer took the loss for Boyertown.
