Roundup (May 2): Peck’s four hits, five RBI lead Upper Merion to late-inning slugfest win over Pottsgrove

Upper Merion 12, Pottsgrove 8

A 1-1 game through four innings transitioned into a slugfest in the later stages. Pottsgrove scored three times in the fifth and two more in both the sixth and seventh innings, but those outbursts were no match for the Vikings, who plated six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to overrun the visiting Falcons.

David Peck had an enormous game for Upper Merion, going 4-for-4 with a double, stolen base, five RBI and two runs scored. Peck had plenty of help, as Andrew Prendergast (2-for-3, 2RBI, 2R), John Tomsho (2-for-2, 2RBI, R) and Carmen Pascale (1-for-3, 2RBI) all knocked in multiple runs for the victors.

Dylan Roberts picked up the win for the Vikings, giving up six runs on nine hits in five innings, striking out five and walking one. Teddy Walmsley pitched two strong innings of relief, only allowing two unearned runs.

Every Pottsgrove starter had at least one hit. Luke Tyson knocked in two runs, and Shane O’Hanlon had three hits and an RBI. Gabe Rinda, Zayd Rogers and Charlie Potpinko also plated runs in the losing effort.

Perkiomen Valley 6, Boyertown 0

Mike Strechay had a fantastic two-way effort for Perk Valley, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base, RBI and run scored at the plate while also pitching 6.2 shutout innings for the win. Strechay allowed seven hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Aidan Autovino doubled, tripled and knocked in three runs for the Vikings, and John Boyd was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Connor Moyer had a double for Boyertown and also threw 0.2 scoreless innings of relief. Jonah Mayer drew the start for the Bears, lasting 4.2 innings and allowing eight hits and two earned runs. He struck out four.

Pope John Paul II 10, Phoenixville 3

A day after scoring six runs in the bottom of the seventh to nearly stun Spring-Ford, PJP returned to its home field and got right against Phoenixville in a PAC Frontier victory.

AJ Diaddezio doubled, tripled and knocked in two runs, and Jimmy Kenning went 2-for-3 with three runs knocked in.

TJ Boccella (1-for-3, 2RBI, 2R), Luke Terlesky (2-for-4, RBI, R) and Aidan Sgarra (1-for-3, 2B, RBI, R) also made contributions at the plate.

Carson Glose drew the start for the Golden Panthers on the mound, striking out four and allowing an unearned run in two innings of work. Diaddezio relieved Glose in the third and took his team the rest of the way, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Bobby Gray had two hits and a run scored for the Phantoms in the loss, and Anthony Cervino registered his team’s only RBI. Tommy Whitesel picked up the loss, going the first four innings and yielding six runs on seven hits for Phoenixville.

Upper Perkiomen 15, Pottstown 0

Upper Perkiomen made quick work of Pottstown, posting 15 runs and 12 hits in a four-inning PAC Frontier win.

Ben Godshall did not allow a hit in his four innings of work on the mound, striking out seven.

On offense, Evan Sands was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. Isaac Bugman went 2-for-2 with a double, two steals, two RBI and two runs.

Kyle Mazzie (2-for-3, 2SB, RBI, 2R) and Zane Saeger (1-for-2, SB, RBI, 2R) also had solid days at the plate for the Indians.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Spring-Ford 12, Methacton 4

Preston Page and Brady Welsh each recorded hat tricks for Spring-Ford, which picked up a big PAC Liberty win at Methacton on Thursday.

Gavin Roth (two assists) and Mike Bendowski scored two goals apiece for the Rams, and Hayden Wedemeyer and Ian Evans (four assists) also scored in the win.

Dylan Cyr made eight saves for Spring-Ford.

Levi Borkowski, Michael Maro, Ryan Bove and Christian Kay all had goals for Methacton. Wyatt Stemler came up with 13 saves in the cage.

Upper Merion 15, Pottsgrove 4

Justin Besz scored a team-high four goals while adding an assist for Upper Merion in a dominant PAC victory. The Vikings led 8-1 after the first quarter and 12-2 at halftime.

Kevin Roseland and Collin McCormick each picked up two goals and two assists, with Noah Canale also finding the back of the net twice for Upper Merion.

Kieran Lamey, Aidan McDonnell, Alejandro Nunez, Jeremy Donovan and Ryan Becker also scored in the win. Becker went 17-for-23 in the face-off circle, and Nathan Uhl made eight saves in goal.

Pope John Paul II 14, Interboro 5

PJP jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one quarter and increased the advantage to 9-1 at halftime, never looking back in a convincing victory over Interboro.

Ian Young led the attack with three goals and two assists, while Brady Kleine registered two goals and three assists of his own. Riley Lumpkin and Ryan Lamson also had multi-goal efforts, with each finding the back of the net twice.

Single goal-scorers for the Golden Panthers included Jake Vigilante (three assists), Denny Owens (two assists), Sean Fallon, Jamie McCue and Matt Breslawski.

James McElroy won 14 of 17 face-offs, with Fallon (six saves) and Elijah Whitfield (seven saves) splitting goalkeeping duties.

Perkiomen Valley 19, Phoenixville 5

Perk Valley held a slim 4-2 lead after one quarter before unleashing a slew of offensive fireworks upon Phoenixville on Thursday.

Bryce Coletta tallied a team-high six goals and also added an assist, with Luke Hanlon (4G, 1A) and Patrick Moloney (3G, 5A) also posted multi-goal efforts.

Jackson Baker and Connor Macklin each had a goal and two assists, and Patrick Lamirande, Jacob Rotay, James Herb and Dylan Holland also contributed to the score sheet for Perk Valley.

Sam Dogonniuck came up with seven saves in the win.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Pope John Paul II 12, Upper Merion 5

Jillian Cobaugh’s four goals and Ava Zepp’s hat track were too much for Upper Merion to overcome as the Panthers claimed a PAC Frontier victory on Thursday.

Elena Colliluori scored twice, with Cam Love, Gracen Hickey and Ella Delciotta all tallying a goal apiece.

Cam Grimley registered seven draw controls, and McKayla Ellison had a strong game in the cage with 15 saves.

Boyertown 15, Methacton 7

Kamryn Pier led a potent Boyertown attack with four goals, with Alina Friz chipping in three goals and six assists of her own in a PAC Liberty triumph for Boyertown.

Adison Harner and Reagan Harner scored two goals apiece for the Bears, and Hannah Adamski, Alex Bliss, Jordyn Diffenderfer and Camryn Friz found the back of the net as well.

Peyton Shellaway recorded three assists, and Teagan Tyson made six saves in goal.

For Methacton, Lily DeWan and Bella Catania scored twice. Alexa Diezel, Brayden Williams and Giada Catoia contributed one goal each.

Calie Fisher posted six saves in the losing effort.

Upper Perkiomen 18, Pottstown 1

Upper Perkiomen scored 10 first-quarter goals and cruised to a PAC Frontier win over Pottstown.

Abby Davidheiser and Mia Schneider led the Indians with three goals each, while Maggie Milkowich and Abby Orsini each scored twice.

Ava Senseny, Grace Vogel, Angelina Glackin, Jade Bugman, Mia Ulmer, Taylor Bieler, Jules Schwab and Giana Kozminski all chipped in goals for Upper Perk.

Softball

Pope John Paul II 16, Phoenixville 4

A day after their big win over Spring-Ford, PJP kept it rolling on Thursday in a strong offensive performance against Phoenixville.

Lexi DiBricida threw six shutout innings and improved to 3-0 on the week with three complete games and a 1.05 ERA.

Charlie Hallman was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI, and Molly Houchins stayed hot offensively by going 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Rylee Derecola scored four runs for the Golden Panthers, and Kelly Murphy was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Katie Clarke tied the game in the third inning with a three-run home run for Phoenixville. Cora Perrone went 2-for-3 for the Phantoms.

Upper Perkiomen 14, Pottstown 3

Pottstown struck first with a run in the top of the first before Upper Perk responded with a seven-spot in the bottom of the inning, ultimately cruising to a PAC Frontier win.

Elizabeth Proctor, Burgandy Gahman, Piper Borchelt, Ryan Berg, Jenna Langenback and Eve McCormick all knocked in two runs for the Indians. Emma Davidheiser went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.

Erin Gray (2.1IP, 2H, ER, 3K) and Jocelyn Sledgen (2.2IP, H, 2ER, 3BB) combined to limit Pottstown to minimal offensive damage.

Savannah Richards had an RBI double for Pottstown, while Angelina Quiles and Keiara Lesley each had a hit and a run scored.
