Roundup (April 4): Roseland, Besz each score 100th career goals as Upper Merion boys lax blanks Phoenixville

BOYS LACROSSE

Upper Merion 13, Phoenixville 0

Kevin Roseland and Justin Besz each scored their 100th career goals, while Nathan Uhl made seven saves for his first career shutout in a demonstrative Upper Merion PAC victory. Roseland found the back of the net six times, while Besz scored four goals. Collin McCormick added two goals and an assist and Henry Turbiner posted one for the Vikings. Noah Canale and Ian Montgomery notched assists for Upper Merion and Ryan Becker won 10 of 16 face-offs in the winning effort.

Perkiomen Valley 10, Methacton 2 

Perk Valley held a slim 1-0 lead over the Warriors for much of the first quarter before the offense came alive, scoring three late first-quarter goals en route to a 10-2 PAC-opening victory. Senior Luke Hanlon had four goals and an assist to lead the offense, while Patrick Moloney and Connor Macklin scored two goals each. Moloney added two assists, Bryce Coletta chipped in a goal and two assists and Patrick Lamirande posted a goal and three caused turnovers in the victory. Sophomore Braden Nester led the strong defensive effort with four ground balls and three caused turnovers, and fellow sophomore Christian Jones made 10 saves in three quarters in the cage.

Boyertown 22, Pottsgrove 1

Boyertown scored at least five goals in every quarter in a dominant PAC win. Mason Barndt, Brayden Kuhar and Gio Daddario all scored five goals apiece for the Bears, and Austin Bouthillette (two goals, two assists), Anthony Genovese (two goals), Weston Loshnowsky (goal, assist), Joe Warrington (goal, assist) and Jason Oakes (goal, assist) also found the back of the net for Boyertown. Parker Anderson had two assists, while Tyler Diffenderfer notched one.


GIRLS LACROSSE

Upper Merion 8, Upper Perkiomen 4

Upper Merion raced out to a 6-1 halftime lead and held off Upper Perk in a PAC Frontier victory. Sam Walmsley scored a game-high four goals along with an assist in the win, getting support from Mackenzie Davis (two goals, assist) and Jess Reinhardt (two goals). Elisa Dougherty and Chelsea Smith each had an assist for the Vikings, and Anaya Onwubuariri made 15 saves.

Abby Davidheiser (three goals) and Maggie Milkawich (one goal) each scored in the losing effort for Upper Perk. Madison Hicks made five saves in the cage.


SOFTBALL

Methacton 16, Phoenixville 6

Sydney Hockenbrock, Kaitlin Pettine and Madison Krupiewski all homered as Methacton scored multiple runs in four of seven innings in a dominant offensive showing. The trio combined to go 6-for-12 with seven runs scored and seven RBI in the PAC contest, and Jenna Kaufman went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored from the cleanup spot for Methacton. The Warriors led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, only for Phoenixville to tie things up with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Methacton responded with two runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and four more in the seventh, including the homers from Pettine and Krupiewski.

Katie Clarke homered and knocked in two for Phoenixville while also pitching the first five innings of the game, allowing four runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Alina Rakowski triples, scored two runs, knocked in two and stole a base from the leadoff spot.
