High School Roundup: Spring-Ford, Methacton teams reach semifinals of PAC Doubles tournament

GIRLS TENNIS

It’s an all-Methacton and Spring-Ford Final Four in the Pioneer Athletic Conference Doubles Championships.

Methacton’s top two pairings of Lauren Montgomery/Anika Suresh and Claire Montgomery/Chelsea Lian and Spring-Ford’s two teams, Mia Matriccino/Evelyn Mejia and Chloe Moore/Alexis Luo, advanced to the semifinals of the tournament following the first day of competition on Thursday at Perkiomen Valley.

The tournament will conclude Wednesday, Oct. 11, postponed from Friday due to projected inclement weather.

Three-time PAC singles champion Matriccino and Mejia will oppose Claire Montgomery and Lian in one semifinal; the other sees the longtime pairing of Moore and Luo against the Warriors’ Lauren Montgomery and Suresh, the team’s second and third singles players in the regular season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Methacton 6, Norristown 0

Aubrey Beaugard led the scoring for the Warriors with three goals, becoming Methacton’s all time leading goal scorer in the process in a PAC win over the Eagles. Beaugard now has 40 career goals, breaking the record of Ryan Johnson (39), set in 2001.

Katie Rozinsky also added two goals, while freshman Marlie Klein also tallied. Anna Rees, Dannie Bordonaro, and Kendall Ricca each added an assist.

Goalkeepers Anna Qawasmy and Alana Albergato combined for 6 saves for the Warriors (6-9).

Pope John Paul II 8, Perkiomen School 2

Olivia Rubinich scored twice and Cam Schuler, Jen Todd, Sarah Boyce, Kaila Tate and Aubrey Delpha had a goal and assist each to carry the Golden Panthers in a non-league victory on Oct. 5. Anna Kost also scored while goalie Kyanni Escudero had an assist and six saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Boyertown 4, Spring-Ford 2

The Bears won the first-place battle in the PAC LIberty Division over the Rams, getting two goals from Maya Brunner in the victory.

Boyertown came away with a 4-2 victory over Springford tonight. The game remained scoreless in the first quarter.  The Bears got on the board  in the 2 quarter, when

Kendal Gilbert scored off an interception at the top of the circle to open the scoring in the second quarter. Brunner put the Bears up for good, tipping in a pass for Gilbert, then Peyton Shellaway scored on a corner scramble with three minutes to go in the third. Brunner capped the scoring off an Emily Ulrich baseline pass. Addie Galianese had a very strong night in Boyertown goal with 10 saves.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Pope John Paul II 3, Spring-Ford 0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-22)

Pope John Paul II improved to 15-0 and knocked off Liberty Division first place Spring-Ford in its Dig Pink game Thursday night.

Statistical leaders for PJP were Madison Monahan (25 assists, 12 digs, 14 service points), Natalie RIcevuto (15 kills), Gabby Cooper (16 digs, 11 service points) and Maeve Gallagher (9 kills, 9 service points)
