Mercury roundup (Aug. 25): Dougherty earns first win as Perkiomen Valley girls soccer coach in double overtime over Haverford

Perkiomen Valley 3, Haverford 2 (2OT)
Highlights: Kaitlyn Dougherty’s first game as the Vikings’ head coach was one to remember. Taking a 2-2 stalemate with Haverford into double overtime, Gia Marciano scored the game-winning goal six minutes into the period to give Perkiomen Valley its first win of the season, and Dougherty her first win at the helm of the program.
Marciano first put Perkiomen Valley on the board on a feed from Matilda Fisher before assisting Ashley Pickles with another to go up 2-0 in the first half. Kendall Gillespie responded with an unassisted goal off a corner to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the break. Gillespie knotted the game with another unassisted shot on a corner to force overtime.
Olivia Hulayew registered 10 saves between the pipes for the Vikings, while Bella Budzyn (five saves) and Jordan Karp (four saves) minded the net for the Fords.
Spring-Ford 7, Valley View 0
Seven goals from seven scorers carried the Rams to a season-opening win over District 2’s Valley View.
Ava Hissong, Ally Garvey, Maddie Budka, Megan Kurian, Lena Ackerman, Sadie McClain and Taylor Ricevuto tallied. Assists were registered by Kurian (2), Brynn Vickery, Sarah Hang and Erin Buckley. Goalies Olivia Neild and Riley Reavy made one save apiece.
Dallas 2, Methacton 1 OT
Dallas scored the game winner with 3:43 left in the first overtime from a goal by Noelle Cunningham, assisted by Elizabeth Viglone. Viglone also assisted on Dallas’s first goal in the 49th minute by Jamie Timlin.
Methacton tied the game in the 70th minute with a goal from senior Mia Chan, assisted by Aubrey Beaugard. Methacton goalkeepers Alana Albergato and Anna Qawasmy combined for 11 saves.
Pottstown 6, Renaissance Academy Charter School 0
Daniella Castillo (jr) delivered a hat trick along with goals by Nashiya Dowling (jr), Jayanna Hill (so) and Savannah Richards (sr) to lead the Trojans to their first victory of the season. Goalies Riley Maguire (fr) and Jayla Zipay (sr) combined for the clean sheet.

The Bears got the season off to a winning start with goals from Macade Knoblauch, Ramzi Musallam and Brayden Burkhardt. Chase Bartman and Ryan Kratzer were credited with assists.
Goalie Brayden Risser came up with 11 saves in the win.

Logan Watkins played a role in five goals – three goals, two assists – and Upper Perk blasted Brandywine in its season opener Friday. Also finding the net for the Tribe were Jackson Smith (2), Theo Deskevich and River Lahr. UP assists also came from Matthew Fisher (2), Brae Jerrom (2) and Deskevich.

Highlights: Nina Scott scored a hat trick in a shutout win for the Rams in their non-league season opener. Six different players found the back of the cage altogether. Morgan Evak and Elise Reagan tallied one goal and one assist apiece while Claire O’Conner came up with 17 saves for Lower Merion.

Evie Wolters played a role on all four Wildcats goals, contributing two goals and two assists in a non-league win over neighboring Daniel Boone.
Peyton Cunningham and Zoe McDonald hit the cage on helpers from Wolters while McDonald set up Wolters for the opening score.
OJR led Boone in corners 11-5. OJR goalie Jaz Campbell had three saves while Boone’s Breanne Marchiano saved nine.

CB West got the best of Boyertown in a closely-contested season opener Friday.
Peyton Shellaway had a goal and assist for the Bears while freshmen Kendal Gilbert and Emily Ulrich also scored. Boyertown freshman goalie Addie Galianese registered 12 stops.

For Pottsgrove, Avery Gleason led the team effort with 16 service points, 5 aces, and 8 kills on the night. Raelyn Eisenhard contributed 14 service points, 5 of them aces as well as 8 assists. Rylie Eisenhard had 13 service points, 9 of them aces and added 7 kills. Ava Kaufman added 7 service points, 4 of them aces and 3 digs.
