Recap
Neshaminy junior Michaela Boyd scored the game-winning goal with 7:22 left in regulation to lead the Indians to a 3-2 win over Owen J. Roberts during the third-place game of the District 1 Class 4A playoffs on Saturday night.
OJR’s Mahogany Willis opened up the game with a goal 11 minutes in on a feed from Sarah Kopec, Willis’ 99th career goal and OJR single-season record 35th goal. She broke the record previously held by Laura Kane (2000) and Stacy Blevins (2002), who currently serves as a Wildcats’ assistant coach.
“I honestly didn’t know I had 99 goals, but breaking the school individual record for a season feels really good,” Willis said.
Neshaminy rattled off the next two goals before Hannah Delahaye evened it at 2-2 with 21 minutes to go, leading up to Boyd’s second score taken from distance for the winner.
Neshaminy, the district’s No. 3 seed, will meet District 11 champion Parkland in the first round of states. OJR, District 1’s No. 4 seed, will face District 12 champion Archbishop Ryan.
OJR used Saturday’s outing as a chance to give many players time on the field and work out some kinks after the letdown of falling to Pennsbury in the district semifinal.
“I thought it made us play better, relaxed and not having to feel like anything was on the line. Hopefully we can take this game, where we got to figure some things out, to states and know how our personality is supposed to be for a big game,” senior Caroline Thompson said.
