Recap
Upper Perk weathered brutal playing conditions and second half pressure from Bishop Shanahan to register a 2-1 victory in the District I AAA girls quarterfinal contest. Playing with the strong wind the first half, the Indians opened the scoring 6 minutes into the match with a goal from Sarah Fisher, assisted by Megan Cairns. Several near misses combined with a couple of terrific saves from Sage Baillargeon kept it 1-0 at halftime. Playing into the wind the second half, the Indians actually began possessing the ball better and with 16 minutes remaining, Sara Edwards provided what would be the eventual game winner. Edwards to a great diagonal ball behind the defense and loft a shot from 20 yards out (against the wind) and over the keepers head. With 7 minutes remaining, a corner kick resulted in a goalmouth scrum and a first goal for the Eagles, making for a tense ending to the contest. The Indians defense, led by Gabby Neal’s 8 saves, held tight to preserve the win and advance Upper Perk to the District Semifinals against Villa Joseph Marie (a 2-0 winner over West Chester East) at 3:30pm on Tuesday.
