Owen J. Roberts head coach Joe Margusity became the first girls coach in Pa. history to reach the 500-win milestone on Tuesday night with the Wildcats’ 3-1 victory at Perkiomen Valley.

Margusity has achieved legendary status in his 28 seasons guiding the Wildcats to 10 PIAA tournament appearances – including a state championship in 2003 and recent PIAA semifinal appearances in 2018 and 2022 – and 14 Pioneer Athletic Conference championships.

Margusity won the race to 500 ahead of Moon head coach Bill Pfeifer, who sits on 499 career wins entering Wednesday. The two coaches on opposite sides of the state have been neck-and-neck in recent years on the all-time wins chart.

All the scoring in the PAC Liberty Division match came in the second half, Owen J. Roberts’ Fiona Sanders tallying a pair of goals – one on a penalty kick – as the Wildcats claimed the win. Avery Cies added a goal for OJR. Giavanna Marciano scored for Perkiomen Valley off a Brianna Young assist. PV goalie Olivia Hualayew had 10 saves with Wildcats keeper Abigail Smith posting three saves.
