Main Line girls’ soccer wrap-up: Baldwin School wins a pair
The Baldwin School soccer team (13-3, 3-3) defeated Academy of Notre Dame, 3-0, Tuesday. Sophomore Gia Vicari, sophomore Natalie Sgro and junior Rachel White each scored a goal. Sophomore goalie Simi Bleznak stopped a penalty kick and made four saves to record the team’s ninth shutout this season.
Three days earlier, Baldwin topped Springside 2-1 on Homecoming. Gia Vicari netted two goals in the game off assists from Natalie Sgro and Rachel White.

Conestoga (12-0-4, 9-0-2) defeated host Lower Merion, 3-2, Monday. Trailing 1-0, Conestoga fired back early in the second half, courtesy of Hannah Morgan who filled in at forward from her normal center-back position due to injuries to Caitlin Donovan and Nia Scott up top. The lead was then taken by Stoga when Rachel Dirico got free down the middle in behind and slotted the ball home.
With the score tied 2-2 and 10 minutes to play, Conestoga outside back Calista Courtney pressed high and drove into the box, found Ceara Sweeney wide-open on the far-side, and Sweeny blasted the ball home from just inside the 18 for the game winner. Courtney finished with two assists, and teammate Dana Cicchitti dished out one. Lower Merion’s goals were scored by Lily Elman and Avivo Kosto. LM goalie Lindsey Palish recorded eight saves.
Two days earlier, Conestoga defeated Downingtown East, 2-1. Both Stoga goals were scored in the first half by Rachel Dirico. Assists were by Nia Scott and Dana Cicchitti. Colleen Baldwin (five saves) and Maeve Regan (six saves) split the game in goal for Stoga.
The Pioneers defeated Upper Darby, 6-0, Oct. 13. For Conestoga, goal scorers were Caitlin Donovan, Anna Kovarick, Dana Cicchitti, Emily Maneri, Cameron Evitts, and one goal was an own goal on a corner kick. Assists were by Madie French, Rebecca Mongeluzi, and Ariel Loevy. Colleen Baldwin played the full game in goal for Stoga.
Episcopal Academy defeated Agnes Irwin, 2-0, Tuesday. Lilly Shaner scored on a penalty kick, and Olivia Dirks also scored, with an assist from Brooke Royer. EA goalie Morgan Messner tallied five saves, while Agnes Irwin netminder Kendall Shein recorded 10 saves.
The Churchwomen lost to Germantown Academy, 3-2, Oct. 15. EA goals were scored by Izzy Rohr and Rina Kuzemka, with assists from Anna Salvucci and Olivia Dirks.
Friends’ Central defeated Westtown School, 1-0, Oct. 14. In the seventh minute, senior center mid Lorna MacFarlane won a 50-50 ball from a Westtown defender and took it straight to goal en route to a beautiful and collected finish into the side netting. Outstanding defensive performances from the entire Friends’ Central back line of juniors Morgan Crowley, Ava Forman, Emily Lorry and senior Hannah Posencheg repeatedly turned away relentless Westtown pressure for the duration of the second half. Behind them, junior goalkeeper Mira Kauffman-Rosengarten turned in her best performance of the season, with eight big saves to control the game and preserve the clean sheet. In the midfield, the freshman/sophmore duo of Phebe Guenther and Brynne Menen also worked well to keep the Moose off the board. The play of the game occurred in the final seconds, when junior Emily Lorry cleared a would-be Westtown goal off the line to clinch the victory.
Merion Mercy Academy defeated Marple Newtown, 4-3, in double overtime Oct. 15. Caila Olivo tallied two goals for the winners, and teammates Nora Pellegrini and Teresa Hegarty each tallied one goal.
The Golden Bears lost to Mount St Joseph’s, 3-1, Oct. 13, with the Merion goal scored by Caila Olivo.
Radnor tied Garnet Valley, 1-1, Tuesday. The Red Raider goal was scored by Maura Holst, and the Radnor goalie was Alexa Solomon.
The Red Raiders defeated St. Hubert’s, 1-0, Oct. 15. The goal was scored by Allison Lanzone, and Red Raider goalie Alexa Solomon posted the shutout.
Two days earlier, Radnor defeated Lower Merion, 3-1. Radnor goals were scored by Maura Holst, Audrey Rosenblum and Carolyn Eckstein, and the Red Raider goalie was Alexa Solomon.
Shipley (4-1-1 in the Friends’ Schools League) suffered its first FSL defeat of the season Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to Westtown on Senior Day. Gator freshman Hannah Brainsky scored a goal.
