Mercury All-Area Girls Soccer Teams
FIRST TEAM
Kaitlyn Casiano, Phoenixville
Junior midfielder pulled the strings in the middle of the park for the Phantoms, contributing three goals and two assists, while helping Phoenixville finish first in the PAC Frontier Division, reach the conference playoffs and qualify for the District 1-AAA tournament. Casiano was selected to the All-Southeastern Pa. Soccer Coaches Association team.
Maria Garofolo, Boyertown
Senior midfielder spent four seasons as the reliable, ball-winning presence in the defensive midfield for the Bears, boosting them to a PAC-10 championship and 16-2-1 record in 2015. Garofolo, who scored three goals and two assists, completed the rare accomplishment of being a three-time All-Area and All-PAC first team selection.
Kayleigh Kardos, Daniel Boone
Senior midfielder scored 23 goals, had three assists and created the attacking personality for the high-scoring Blazers (8-0-2 Berks I co-champion, 17-3-2), who made an incredible run to capture the District 3-AAA championship and earn a spot in the PIAA Class AAA Championships for the first time. Kardos will continue her soccer career at Division I Liberty.
Emilie Kupsov, Owen J. Roberts
Senior forward was in form all season and put defenses in danger constantly with her ability to go at defenders and score in different ways, netting her 27 goals and 16 assists to make her the runaway scoring leader in the Pioneer Athletic Conference for the 15-7 Wildcats, who reached the playbacks of the District 1-AAA tournament. Kupsov is a two-time All-Area first team pick.
Missy Moore, Spring-Ford
Junior defender locked down the left side and lent quality in possession and with long free kicks for Spring-Ford, which reached the PIAA quarterfinals for a third straight year, the PAC-10 title game, the District 1-AAA semifinals and finished 18-6-2.
Taylor Newhart, Spring-Ford
Senior brought a poised, unflappable presence to the Rams’ defensive line and put on a clinic in the postseason against many of Pa.’s best attacking players, helping Spring-Ford (18-6-2) reach the PIAA quarterfinals for a third straight year, the PAC-10 title game and the District 1-AAA semifinals. Newhart, who will continue her soccer career at La Salle, is a two-time All-Area first team selection.
Alayna Roesener, Daniel Boone
Senior defender/midfielder provided a physical, ball-winning presence protecting the defense while becoming known for her long throw-ins – she scored five goals and had 14 assists – while leading the Blazers (8-0-2 Berks I co-champion, 17-3-2) on a shocking run to win the District 3-AAA championship and earn a place in the PIAA Class AAA tournament for the first time in program history. Roesener is a two-time All-Area first team choice.
Laura Suero, Spring-Ford
Senior defender scored three goals and three assists brought a dynamic presence to the unrivaled Rams’ back line and was the vocal leader of a team that reached the PIAA quarterfinals for a third straight season and played in the PAC-10 final and District 1-AAA semifinals. The Penn State-bound Suero’s postseason awards include Mercury All-Area Player of the Year, All-Southeast Pa. Soccer Coaches Association team, PSCA All-State team and participating in the High School All-American Game.
Gabrielle Vagnozzi, Spring-Ford
Senior forward with a burst of speed and booming shot scored 17 goals and five assists for a Spring-Ford team (18-6-2) that reached the PIAA quarterfinals for a third straight year, the PAC-10 title game and the District 1-AAA semifinals. Vagnozzi, who will continue her soccer career at St. Joseph’s, is a two-time All-Area first team selection.
Sarafina Valenti, Boyertown
senior goalkeeper capped her marvelous scholastic career by guiding Boyertown to the PAC-10 championship and 16-2-1 season including 12 shutouts. A three-time All-Area first team selection and four-time All-PAC first teamer bound for Penn State, Valenti was selected to the PSCA All-State team.
Mahogany Willis, Owen J. Roberts
Sophomore wide forward used her pace to beat defenders with ease and followed her rousing rookie year with a 21-goal, 5-assist season – second-best in the Pioneer Athletic Conference – for 15-7 Owen J. Roberts, which made the playbacks of the District 1-AAA tournament.

Upbeat fifth-year coach went out on top by guiding the Blazers to the best season in school history that featured the District 3-AAA championship (after never winning a district-level game previously) with an upset of powerhouse Cumberland Valley in the final, the first PIAA Championships berth in school history and a share of the Berks I regular season title (8-0-2, 17-3-2).
