Goodyear had great day for Marple

Marple Newtown fully expects another good year out of Amanda Goodyear. A week into the 2014 girls soccer season, the senior goalie has delivered.

Goodyear showed her versatility in Saturday afternoon’s nonleague game with Merion Mercy. She made two saves in net in the first half and then played the field in the second, scoring three goals to help Marple Newtown cruise to a 7-0 victory.

Goodyear split time in the cage with Nicole Kulp, who also stopped two shots.

Holly Nicolardi added a goal and dished out two assists while Megan Lynch tallied twice for the Tigers, who erupted for six goals after halftime.

In other nonleague games:

Penncrest 2, Avon Grove 0: Gia Martyn and Olivia Mancarella carried the offense with a goal each. Goalie Kayla Allen (four saves) posted her second shutout

Great Valley 1, Springfield 0: The Patriots scored in the first half and were able to hold off the visiting Cougars despite eight saves from goalkeeper Madison D’Ambrosio.

Unionville 2, Garnet Valley 1: Hannah Grandell netted the game-winner in the fourth minute of extra time as the host Jaguars (0-3) stayed winless on the year.

Brittany Dragoni scored midway through the first half for the Jags, and goalie Ashley Bufano racked up four saves.

W.C. Rustin 3, Strath Haven 2: Lizzie King and Maddie Forbes scored in the first half, but the Panthers couldn’t hold on to a halftime lead.
