Roundup (April 25): Frank, Humes guide Methacton over Norristown to culminate 5-0 week on the diamond

Methacton 3, Norristown 2

Austin Frank pitched into the sixth inning for red-hot Methacton, allowing one hit and an unearned run while striking out five to earn the victory.

Kasey Humes had the biggest hit of the game for the Warriors on a two-run double in the fourth that gave his squad a 3-1 lead. Tommy Kratz finished off the sixth inning and worked around a seventh-inning run to pick up the save for Methacton.

The Warriors capped off a busy week in which they went 5-0 across a four-day stretch.

Justin Fryer struck out nine in six innings for Norristown and also stole two bases, while Matt Leary had an RBI single in the loss.

Phoenixville 7, Upper Perkiomen 6

Upper Perkiomen rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 6 against Phoenixville, only for the Phantoms to walk it off on a bases-loaded walk by Andrew Farrand in a thrilling PAC Frontier battle.

Chris Mull registered four hits in as many at bats along with an RBI and two runs scored, while Tommy Whitesel was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Whitesel also drew the start on the mound for Phoenixville, yielding five runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Sam Marsh earned the win in relief, allowing a hit and an unearned run.

Owen Williams was 2-for-4 with five RBI for Upper Perk, including a bases-clearing double during the team’s seventh-inning rally. Williams also stole a base and scored a run while picking up the loss in relief. Braden Rieg got the start for the Indians, allowing three earned runs over 4.1 innings, striking out four and walking one.

Twin Valley 7, Daniel Boone 0

Daniel Boone’s Chase Yenser and Twin Valley’s Kevin Edan each carried no-hitters into the sixth inning before Twin Valley’s bats suddenly came to life during a five-run sixth inning.

Yenser allowed two hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings, striking out three and walking three.

The Blazers managed just three singles while also making five errors in the field.

Softball

Boyertown 10, Norristown 0

Rielynn Carey tossed a five-inning, one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts for the Bears while also going 2-for-2 with two runs, two steals and an RBI at the plate in her squad’s PAC Liberty triumph.

Hailey Schildt (2-for-3, 3 RBI), Jenna Fox (2-for-3, 2B, SB, 3R, RBI), Aubrey Kern (2-for-4, 3B, RBI, R) and Sydney Reed (1-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI, R) also had big days at the plate for Boyertown, which scored at least one run in all five innings.

Upper Perkiomen 13, Phoenixville 7

Riley Eden went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while Darby Gasda knocked in three runs while scoring a pair more for Upper Perk in a PAC Frontier win.

The Indians led 11-2 through four innings, with Emma Davidheiser (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 2R) also having a productive day offensively. Erin Gray drew the start and pitched six strong innings, scattering eight hits along with two runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

Sara Chajko went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Phantoms. Alina Rakowski (2-for-4, 2B, 2 SB, 2 RBI, 2R) and Cora Perrone (2-for-3, 2 RBI) also posted solid games at the plate in the losing effort.

North Penn 7, Owen J. Roberts 3

Amelia Atkins (3IP, 2H, 2ER, 2BB, 3K) and Gracelyn Przborowski (3.1IP, H, BB, K) pitched well for the Wildcats, but North Penn posted a five-spot off OJR reliever Avery Pollard in the fifth to run away with the win.

Boys Lacrosse

Methacton 10, Boyertown 8

With the score deadlocked at 4 at halftime, the Warriors outscored Boyertown 3-2 in both the third and fourth quarters to claim a competitive PAC victory over Boyertown.

Gio Daddario led the Bears attack with three goals and an assist, while Ryder Gehris also registered a multi-goal effort with a pair of scores.

Mason Barndt, Tyler Diffenderfer and Anthony Genovese all found the back of the net once in the losing effort.

Spring-Ford 12, Phoenixville 3

Brady Welsh scored a game-high five goals in a PAC victory for Spring-Ford, while Sean Hassis and Hayden Wedemeyer each had two goals.

Mike Bendowski, Nick Valerio and Preston Page added goals for the Rams. Dylan Cyr made 15 saves in goal.

Will Linko posted two goals and an assist for the Phantoms, with Cole Hathawan scoring as well. Nico Tenbroeck came up with 13 saves in the losing effort.

Upper Merion 19, Interboro 6

Justin Besz reached the 200-point milestone in his high school career with a dominant seven-goal, two-assist performance to roll past Interboro. The Vikings led 6-0 after one quarter and 14-3 at halftime.

Kieran Lamey (3A) and Collin McCormick (2A) each scored four times for Upper Merion. Alejandro Nunez, Kevin Roseland, Dylan Contra and Noah Weiller scored goals for the Vikings.

Nathan Uhl and Tim Ledbetter teamed up to make nine saves in goal.

Owen J. Roberts 17, Pottsgrove 5

Gabe DellaPenna erupted for eight goals and three assists for OJR, while Blake Walther tacked on two goals and an assist in a demonstrative PAC win.

Justin Daubert (3A, 16-for-16 FO), Kenny Smith (assist), Nolan Brown (assist), Aidan Ohst and Owen Clefisch also scored for the Wildcats.

Chad Young came up with five saves in the cage.

Perkiomen Valley 13, Pope John Paul II 4

The Vikings led 4-0 at halftime and used a six-goal third period to put the Golden Panthers away in Thursday’s PAC victory.

Bryce Coletta and Luke Hanlon posted hat tricks for the Vikings, with Patrick Moloney and Patrick Lamirande each finding the back of the net twice.

Other goal-scorers for Perk Valley were Jacob Rotay, Connor Macklin and Sullivan Roop. Sam Dogonniuck posted eight saves in the cage.

Ian Young posted two goals and an assist for PJP, with Brady Kleine and Ryan Lamson also registering scores in the loss.

Senior goalie Sean Fallon came up with 21 saves in a strong effort in goal for the Golden Panthers.

Girls Lacrosse

Upper Merion 12, Upper Perkiomen 9

Upper Merion rode a strong fourth quarter to a PAC Frontier win, outscoring the Indians 3-1 in the final period to put the game away.

Olivia Smith had four goals and an assist for the Vikings, and Sam Walmsley also had a big offensive game with three goals and two assists.

Maura Besz, Chelsea Smith, Elisa Dougherty, Jess Reinhardt and Sydney Reed scored goals for Upper Merion as well. Anaya Onwubuariri pulled down nine saves in between the posts.

Abby Davidheiser (2A, 5DC, 1GB) and Maggie Milkowich (5DC, 1GB, 1CT) each scored three times for Upper Perk, with Abby Orsini (2G) and Mia Schneider (1G, 1GB, 1CT) also putting together solid games in the loss.

Bella Knight made eight saves in goal for the Indians.

Methacton 17, Norristown 3

Laura Blake led a dominant Methacton effort with five goals and an assist, and Lauren Springman added a hat trick in the PAC Liberty victory.

Samantha Cowan, Claire Montgomery and Brynn Cipriano all scored twice for the Warriors. Michelle Kehinde, Gabby Dwyer and Paige Micilcavage each registered a goal in the win.

Allison Nygai, Jada Arrington and Bvandis Baylor scored goals for Norristown.

Pottsgrove 17, Pottstown 4

Cece Hires (2CT, 1GB, 2DC), Emily Sorg (3GB, 16DC, 2CT), Josie Wyatt (1CT, 2GB, 4DC) and Hannah Kumpf (1CT) all scored four times as Pottsgrove overwhelmed Pottstown in a PAC Frontier showdown.

Melanie Kehl also found the back of the net for the Falcons, and Maddie Miller made eight saves in goal.

Brynn McClune scored twice for Pottstown, with Jayda McClune and Aaliyah Johnson accounting for the other Trojan goals.
