Roundup (April 17): PJP baseball scores three times in seventh, rallies for 4-3 win over Norristown

Pope John Paul II 4, Norristown 3

PJP scored three runs in the top of the seventh to rally past Norristown in a PAC cross-division game Wednesday.

Luke Dimaio (2-for-2) and Chase Frantz (2-for-3) had RBI singles in the decisive frame. Starting pitcher AJ Diaddezio had two doubles and an RBI and went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Blake High threw two hitless innings in relief for the win.

Justin Fryer starred for the Eagles, hitting a double as part of his 3-for-3, two-RBI day. He was excellent on the mound, allowing four hits and a run in 5 ⅔ innings. He struck out nine and did not figure in the decision.

Upper Merion 9, Methacton 7

After trading five-spots in the first inning, Upper Merion had enough to stay in front and score a PAC crossover win over Methacton Wednesday.

Andrew Prendergast hit a grand slam in the first for UM and Dylan Roberts doubled and drove in two runs. Carmen Pascale hit a solo home run in the sixth and reached base four times (3 walks).

The VIkings put up single runs in the second and fifth and two in the crucial sixth inning.

Casey Behan was 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Warriors (6-2), Chase McNally had a double and three RBI.

David Peck delivered for UM in three innings relief, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Boyertown 15, Pottstown 0

Randy Wynings tripled, doubled twice and knocked in six runs as Boyertown scored 14 times in the second inning of what ultimately became a three-inning PAC affair.

Easton Albert went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and three runs scored for the Bears, who improved to 3-2 in the PAC with the lopsided victory. Ryan Soffa and Nick Ellis each went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Trojans managed just one hit against Boyertown starter Luis Panunzio, who struck out four and issued no walks.

Daniel Boone 4, Exeter Township 1

Daniel Boone scored all four of its runs in the third inning, with Hayden Lee and Alex Hughes driving in runs for the Blazers.

Anthony Manogue picked up the win, going 4.2 innings while allowing two hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Ryan Pence picked up the save, going the final 2.1 innings, yielding just two hits and one unearned run while striking out three.

Girls lacrosse

Spring-Ford 11, Pope John Paul II 5

Hailey Mozi (3G, 1A), Riley Czapor (2G, 2A), Gianna DiBattista (2G, 5DC) and Megan Ruckman (2G, 2CT) all recorded multiple goals for Spring-Ford, forming a balanced attack offensively that was too much for PJP to overcome.

Lexi Sowers and Kristina Cirino also registered goals for the Rams, who also got a strong performance from Ilyana Jones (12 saves) between the posts.

Boyertown 19, Upper Perkiomen 9

Hannah Adamski (4G, 1GB, 8DC, 1INT, 1CT), Peyton Shellaway (4G, 1GB, 3DC) and Alina Friz (3G, 3A, 1GB, 1DC, 1CT) all had superb all-around games to lead Boyertown to a strong performance over Upper Perkiomen.

Kristin Huffman added three goals and Reagan Harner scored two, while Camryn Friz, Kamryn Pier and Emily Ulrich all found the back of the net once in the victory. Teagan Tyson had eight saves and two interceptions from the goalie crease.

Maggie Milkowich (4G, 7DC, 2GB, 1CT) and Abby Davidheiser (3G, 4DC, 1CT) led the charge for the Indians, with Sarah Fisher and Abby Orsini also scoring in the loss. Bella Knight collected nine saves.

Perkiomen Valley 22, Pottsgrove 3

Leah Pfeiffer and Julia Foley scored four goals each as Perk Valley dominated Pottsgrove in a PAC victory. Holli Nuss (three goals), Grace Miley (two), Grace Schaffner (two) and Anya Vitelli (two) also scored multiple goals for the Vikings. Alexis Keysock, Sophia Lanza and Natalie Min also found the back of the net in the win, and Charlotte Foster made five saves in goal.

Cece Hires scored twice for Pottsgrove, while Josie Wyatt also had a goal. Kylie Willis made nine saves in the losing effort.

Methacton 15, Pottstown 2

Bella Catania, Lea DeWan and Lily DeWan all scored twice in a balanced offensive attack from Methacton, who cruised to a PAC win over Pottstown. Alexa Catoia, Giada Catoia, Brynn Cipriano, Piper Evangelist, Sam Piper, Maddy Washburn, Erin Donnelly, Brayden Williams and Carmela Maro all scored for the Warriors as well. Donnelly and Calie Fisher teamed up to make three saves in goal.

Kaitlyn Campbell and Jayda McGhone scored goals for the Trojans.

Upper Merion 16, Norristown 1

Upper Merion erupted for 11 first half goals on the way to a convincing PAC win. Elisa Dougherty (3A) and Jessica Reinhardt scored four goals apiece, and Olivia Smith added three goals and six assists. Mackenzie Davis registered two scores, and Maura Besz, Chelsea Smith and Sydney Reed also entered the scoring column for the Vikings. Sam Walmsley added four assists, and Anaya Onwubuariri made three saves in the cage.

Kayla Rivera scored the lone goal for Norristown.

Softball

Spring-Ford 7, Upper Perkiomen 2

Jess Fliszar (two doubles) and Jordyn Jacobe each had two hits, an RBI and run scored for the Rams, who scored three times in the third, once in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to help them hold off Upper Perkiomen.

Autumn Eck, Caitin Ashley and Jeana Dailey also knocked in runs for Spring-Ford to back a strong starting pitching effort from Katie Cecconi (7IP, 9H, 2R, 2BB, 3K).

Maddie Deeble and Riley Eden knocked in runs for the Indians, who also got a solid pitching performance from Erin Gray (7IP, 10H, 4ER, 2BB, 3K) in the loss.

Boyertown 18, Pottstown 1

Boyertown scored six runs in the first inning, seven in the second and five in the third en route to a demonstrative win over Pottstown.

Ella Hurter went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs scored, while Jenna Fox (1-for-3, 3R) and Lauren Homa (2-for-2, 2R) each knocked in three runs for the Bears. Audrey Gilbert had a strong day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Boyertown had 18 runs but just eight hits, fully taking advantage of eight walks, five hit batters and three Pottstown errors.

Perkiomen Valley 12, Pottsgrove 2

Five-run fourth and sixth innings sealed a six-inning win for Perk Valley over Pottsgrove Wednesday.

The Vikings’ first four batters, Audrey Powers (3-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Maci Strechay (2-for-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI), Erin Carosi (2-for-3, 2 RBI), and Ashley Carosi (2-for-4, 2 RBI) combined for nine hits and nine RBI.

Powers got the pitching win while allowing four hits and two runs in six innings (5 K, 5 BB).

Avery Gleason had a homer and was 2-for-3 but took the pitching loss.

Owen J. Roberts 17, Phoenixville 1

A 10-run second inning opened the floodgates for the Wildcats, who cruised to a four-inning win in PAC crossover play.

Eight OJR players had hits as part of an 11-hit day.

Liza Flavin had a two-run double and Amelia Atkins (2-for-3) and RBI double in the big inning. Katelyn Stofko and S Cerimele (2-for-2, four RBI) had multi-hit games.

Grace Przborowski allowed a run on four hits in four innings for the pitching victory for OJR (4-5).

LIlly Washington had an RBI double for the Phantoms.
