North Penn 7, Council Rock South 4 >> The Knights led just 2-1 at the half but rallied for the SOL National win on Wednesday behind eight saves from Kiera Holt. Lauren Blanch led the scoring attack for NP (8-3, 5-0) with two goals, while also scoring goals were Kayla Stressman, Emily Varilla, Jordan Bailly, Riley O’Donnell and Danielle Preston.
Wissahickon 21, Lower Moreland 0 >> The Trojans (7-2) took a 12-0 lead into the half and coasted to the 21-0 win on Wednesday. Alexa McCabe led the way for the Trojans with seven goals, while Lex Hobson added one goal and four draw controls. Nora Ryan chipped in with a goal, an assist and three draw controls. Emma Reilly added three caused turnovers and one interception for Wiss.
Jenkintown 11, Dock Mennonite 4 >> The Pioneers (4-3) dropped the BAL contest on Wednesday despite two goals from Abby Mellinger. Kenzie Derstine and Emma Kratz also scored for Dock, which got eight saves from Haley Harper.
Upper Merion 13, Pottsgrove 10 >> Avery Fox came through with 11 saves in a mostly defensive second half as the Vikings (4-6) held on for the PAC win on Wednesday. Julianna Callison led the way in scoring for Upper Merion with five goals, wihle Ashley Evitts, Olivia Smith and Brooke Olsen all scored two goals. Sam Walmsley added a goal and an assist and Audrey Schuebel also tallied a goal for Upper Merion.
Boys lacrosse
Lansdale Catholic 16, Father Judge 2 >> The Crusaders got back on the winning side with a PCL rout on Wednesday behind a five-goal effort from Connor Mann. Also scoring two goals for LC were Colin Corbett, Pat McKeever, Mikey Kleinert, Patch Flannery and Pat Cooney. Jack Kennedy made nine saves in net for LC.
Baseball
Owen J. Roberts 14, Pope John Paul II 2 >> The Golden Panthers fell behind 7-0 after two innings and never recovered in a loss on Wednesday. Chase Frantz paced PJP II with a double and an RBI.
Methacton 6, Phoenixville 1 >> The Warriors (8-2, 5-2) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fifth and held on for the PAC victory on Wednesday. Winning pitcher Kross Howarth doubled twice with two RBI’s at the plate. On the mound, he allowed four hits and just one unearned runs over six innings of work.
Archbishop Wood 13, Neumann-Goretti 2 (5 innings) >> Joey Gale and Sean Slowinski both homered during Archbishop Wood’s four-run top of the first while the Vikings plated five runs in the fifth to finish off a five-inning PCL win.
Gale was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a run scored with Slowinski hitting a pair of doubles as he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored for Wood (9-2, 6-1 league). Braden Kelly scored three runs while Aiden Myers and Richie Bonino each scored twice.
Gale got the Vikings off to a great start by leading off the contest with his home run. Four batters later, Slowinski’s two-run blast made it 4-0.
In the third, Gale’s RBI single put Wood up 6-1 while his bases-loaded walk in the fourth made it 8-1. Gale hit a two-RBI single in the fourth to cap the game’s scoring.
Slowinski connected on his first double to start the fourth then hit his second to drive in two runs to make it 10-2 in the fifth.
La Salle 6, Cardinal O’Hara 4 (8 innings) >> AJ Owad scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the eighth while Tahir Parker’s RBI single put La Salle up two as the Explorers held on for the extra-inning PCL victory.
Parker was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored while Tim Schuler was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored for La Salle (7-4, 5-2 league), which earned its fourth straight win. Aiden Bretschneider was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
A Matt Gannon RBI single gave the Explorers a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth but in the bottom of the inning Brandon Fanelli’s two-out two-RBI triple put Cardinal O’Hara up 3-2.
In the top of the fifth, Jephson Hadson-Taylor tied the game with an RBI single then scored for a 4-3 La Salle advantage on Schuler’s two-out RBI single two batters later. The Lions pulled level in the sixth when Jimmy Coppock came home on a Brenden Till sacrifice bunt.
Truman 8, Central Bucks West 7 >> Central Bucks West scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 lead but Gabe Marrero’s two-out two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh gave Truman a SOL crossover win.
Matt Carr and Aidan Kim both hit home runs for the Bucks, Carr’s solo shot tying the game 6-6 in the sixth. Kevin Bukowski, who singled on the next at-bat, later scored on an error to put West (7-4, 5-2 SOL Colonial) up 7-6.
Carr was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Bukowski went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice while Jackson Cunnane was 2-for-3 with an RBI as the Bucks had their three-game win streak snapped.
Truman (5-6, 4-5 SOL Patriot) led 4-1 after the first inning then added a run in the third. Kim led off the fourth with a homer with West scoring three more in the fifth – Cunnane’s RBI single knotting things 5-5. The Tigers regained the lead on a James Baker RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
Andrew Armstrong hit a two-run home run in the first and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored for Truman. Will Brennan was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, Baker went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Mike Burns was 2-for-4 with a run scored
Softball
Dock Mennonite 19, Delco Christian 2 >> Maggie Dowell had two hits, including her first home run as the Pioneers (4-4) won in three innings. Adelyn Clemmer added three hits, including a double and Sophia Mercure also doubled. Winning pitcher Aubrey Gahman gave up two hits, while striking out nine.
Norristown 22, Pottstown 12 >> The Eagles (2-8) collected 20 hits in a high-scoring PAC affair on Wednesday. Gianna Pino-Ramseur went 5-for-5 and Alana Echevarria added four hits. Camryn Holmes, Kati4e Morcarsky, Isabella Pastella and Riley Logan all collected multiple hits for Norristown.
Boys tennis
Plymouth Whitemarsh 7, Hatboro-Horsham 0 >> The Colonials (4-5) won a pair of three-set tiebreaks to pick up the no-points victory on Wednesday. In the day’s most entertaining match, PW’s James Fassbender outlasted Katong Wong 5-7, 6-0 and 11-9 in the third set tiebreak at No. 1 singles. Not to be outdone, the Colonials’ duo of Harrison Spector/Jacen Sumauang survived Charlie Batman/Chris D’souza 6-4, 4-6 and 10-5 in the tiebreak.
Perkiomen Valley 7, Norristown 0 >> PV only lost two games in overwhelming the Eagles on Wednesday in PAC play. The Vikings were especially stellar in their doubles flights, not dropping a game.
Upper Moreland 6, Phil-Mont Christian 1 >> The Golden Bears swept the doubles’ flights without dropping a set en route the nonconference win on Tuesday. Jacob Nyholm and Bigs Moran set the tone with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles for Upper Morleand.
Bensalem 5, Springfield-Montco 2 >> The Spartans (1-5) were swept out of the doubles’ flights and dropped the SOL crossover match on Tuesday. Eoin Anto and Owen Sarsfield came through with straight sets victories for Springfield in singles play.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 7, Upper Merion 0 >> The Colonials won a pair of three-setters and picked up the nonconference win on Tuesday. James Fassbender rallied for a three-set win at No. 1 singles by scores of 2-6, 6-2 and 7-6 over Josiah Kotright. At No. 2 doubles Alex Halbert/Harrison Spector also survived a three-setter by scores of 3-6, 6-2 and 7-6 over Eytan Kuznits/Kyle Marchese.
