CB West edges Souderton on Tillger’s last-minute goal
FRANCONIA — Tie game in the final minute with a conference title on the line Tuesday night. Meghan Tillger understood the magnitude of the moment, but instead of shying away from it, she made the most of it.
Souderton rallied from four goals down to tie Tuesday’s night contest at 11, but Tillger providing Central Bucks West with the deciding tally, scoring with 31.2 seconds left to give the Bucks a 12-11 Suburban One League National Conference girls lacrosse victory.
“It was nerve-wracking, but I knew that’s what I had to do and I did it,’ Tillger said. “That final drive made me nervous, but I mean got that goal and it was exciting in the end.’
Finley Ueland collected a team-high four goals for CB West as the Bucks (12-4, 7-1 conference) denied Souderton (15-3, 7-1) it second-straight conference championship and claimed its first win over Souderton since 2012.
“Well, the last time we’ve beaten them was second time freshman year, so coming out as our last time playing them senior year, it’s just amazing,’ Tillger said.
The teams are now tied for first in the SOL National with each having one game left Wednesday — the Indians visit Central Bucks East 3:30 p.m., West hosting Pennsbury at 7 p.m.
“I think we’re all just really excited,’ Ueland said. “We knew this was such an important game for us. And I think we just all came together. This was a total team win and we just can’t give it to one person. My goals, my team allowed me to get those. I think it was a team effort.’
Bryn Boylan added another three goals while Jacq Fitzgerald scored twice for West, who won their second straight and ended Souderton’s 17-game conference win streak.
“Well, CB West played really hard and you could tell that they really wanted it,’ Souderton assistant coach Lauren Whiteside said. “So, going into the game, we kind of got caught flat-footed in the first half and our hearts came out, we wore them on our sleeves in the second half and unfortunately it didn’t go in our direction.
