Souderton has little trouble with Upper Perk

Saturday afternoon was the second game of a tough five-game streak for Souderton as they took on Upper Perkiomen on home turf under frigid weather conditions with game time temperature wind chills below freezing. Senior midfielder Natalie Bulgier scored the game’s first goal 1:40 into the contest for Souderton and it never looked back from there knocking off Upper Perk 13-1.

Souderton was sharing the wealth offensively as Bulgier represented one of the eight goal scorers of the Indians 13 goals; Carlie Doughty, Krista Schneider and Amber Lambeth where all multi-goal scorers for Souderton on the day.

“We have some pretty (key) players that tend to get focused on and that opens up a lot for other players,’ Souderton coach Kelly Kelly said.

Souderton was dominant in the midfield as it significantly won the ground ball and turnover battle. In the first half Souderton turned the ball over six times to Upper Perk’s 14 and won the ground ball battle by the same margin.

“We needed more re-defending and that was our focus today,’ Kelly said. “The girls did a great job putting pressure on in the midfield and then capitalizing on poor passes or dropped balls.’

Another key area that Souderton was able win was draw control, although it did not completely dominate like it did in moist other areas of the game. Souderton was able to control 10 of the 16 face-offs.

“Yesterday Owen J Roberts beat us 19-7 on draw controls so today a main focus for us was boxing out and stepping in and we did a much better job,’ Kelly said.
