Top seniors gearing up for Delco Hero Scholarship games
Some of the top senior boys and girls basketball players in Delaware County will participate in the 7th annual Hero Scholarship all-star basketball doubleheader Saturday at Chichester High School
The girls game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys contest.
Proceeds go to the Hero Scholarship Fund, which provides educational scholarships for children of police, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel who die in the line of duty.
Jack Concanon, head coach of Bonner & Prendergast, will guide the East boys squad. Among his players will be Academy Park’s Jawan Collins and DeAndray Covert, Delco Christian’s Wyatt Harkins, Archbishop Carroll’s Alex House, Glen Mills’ Anthony Thompson, Interboro’s Josh Encarnacion, Penn Wood’s Calvin Melton, and Cardinal O’Hara’s Zakee Griffin and Lou Repsis.
The West boys team will be under the direction of Chichester head coach Buzz Wood. The team will include Brit Haseltine of The Christian Academy, Penncrest’s Shaun Norwood, Connor Guilfoil of Haverford High, Andrew Louden of Garnet Valley, Chichester’s Jamai Womack, Ridley’s Brett Foster and Julian Wing, Marple Newtown’s Mike Rutecki, Upper Darby’s Juwan May-Craddle and Strath Haven’s Alex Ischiropoulos.
The East girls team will be coached by Bridget DiCave of Haverford. Among the players will be Sacred Heart’s Madison Schneider, Haverford’s Ashley Murphy and Amanda Battista, Upper Darby’s J.P. Gallagher, Marple Newtown’s Erin Houghton, Maddie Ireland of Garnet Valley, Madison D’Ambrosio of Springfield and Radnor’s Kristin Hamill.
The West girls squad will be under the direction of Penn Wood coach Monique Boyins. The West team includes Interboro’s Amber and Amy Huddell, Delco Christian’s Siani McNeil, Academy of Notre Dame’s Rachel Ryan, Academy Park’s Raven-Monet Kemper, Bonner & Prendergast’s Princess Clemons, and Penn Wood’s Joy Morton and Dahnye Redd.
The referees for the game are PIAA officials who work in law enforcement or are related to a law enforcement official. All of the officials are volunteering their time.
