The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Roundup (Dec. 22): Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Donofrio gets 500th victory

BOYS BASKETBALL

Plymouth Whitemarsh 78, Wissahickon 34 >> Qudire Bennett had a stellar first half to help Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Jim Donofrio earn his 500th career win in the SOL Liberty matchup.

Bennett connected on six 3-pointers in scoring 24 of his game-high 28 points before the break as the Colonials (6-1, 5-0 division) picked up their sixth consecutive victory. Jaden Colzie added 16 points for the PW while Chase Coleman collected 10 points.

Earl Stout paced Wissahickon (2-5, 2-3) with 14 points while Jaylon Williams scored 10 points.

Pennridge 58, Central Bucks South 56 >> Xavier Peters’ 3-pointer at the buzzer completed Pennridge’s second-half comeback as the Rams’ stopped their two-game losing streak.

Peters posted 12 points while Matt Campione led all scorers with 23 points for Pennridge (4-4, 2-3 SOL Colonial) who trailed 32-26 at halftime then cut Central Bucks South’s advantage to 43-39 entering the fourth. Tommy Cramer added 15 points for the Rams.

Dalton Van Zanten’s 15 points paced the Titans (2-8, 2-3 SOL Colonial) while Chris Granito and Tyler Meinel each had 12 points.

Dock Mennonite 72, The Christian Academy 26 >> Nathan Lapp scored 17 points as Dock Mennonite rolled to its fifth straight victory.

Lane Bergey finished with 14 points while Tony Martin collected 10 points for the Pioneers (7-1, 4-0 BAL Presidents).

Souderton 50, Central Bucks West 39 >> Chanse Salone had 12 points, including a late 3-pointer to put Souderton up six as the Indians snapped a three-game skid.

James Blair led Souderton (2-5, 2-3 SOL Colonial) with 14 points while Levi John scored nine of his 11 points in the second quarter. Nate Hemsing and Aiden Maue added seven and six points, respectively.

The loss dropped Central Bucks West to 1-7 (1-4 SOL Colonial).

Methacton 50, Pottsgrove 45 >> Pottsgrove erased a six-point deficit at the start of the fourth to send the PAC contest into overtime but Methacton outscored the Falcons 7-2 in the extra four minutes to earn the win.

Alex Hermann had 16 points to lead the Warriors (6-2, 2-1 PAC, 1-1 PAC Liberty), who have won five of six. Sal Iemmello scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Deymein Doctor finished with a game-high 18 points for Pottsgrove (3-6, 0-3 PAC, 0-2 PAC Frontier).

Perkiomen Valley 50, Pope John Paul II 30 >> Julian Sadler scored 13 of his game-high 16 points in the first half as Perkiomen Valley cruised to a PAC victory.

Kyle Shawaluk had 13 points for the Vikings (6-1, 2-1 PAC, 1-1 PAC Liberty). Caleb Zavertnik finished with seven points for Pope John Paul II (4-3, 2-1 PAC, 2-0 PAC Frontier).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Souderton 51, Central Bucks West 28 >> A big night from Casey Harter helped Souderton to its first win in a row, the senior Northwestern commit scoring 29 points to go along with six rebounds, five steals and four assist as the Indians rolled on the road.

Teya McConnaha posted a double-double for Souderton (6-1, 5-0 SOL Colonial) with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Erin Bohmueller had seven points and five assists for the Indians, who led 33-12 at halftime.

Gab Senior scored 11 points to pace Central Bucks West (3-4, 2-3 SOL Colonial).

Gwynedd Mercy 58, Shipley School 34 >> Gwynedd Mercy had three players score in double figures, Bailey Balkir leading the Monarchs with 15 points as they stayed undefeated with a nonleague win.

Hannah Griffin had 14 points while Emilia Coleman added 12 points for GMA (6-0, 2-0 AACA). Cara Lapp chipped in seven points.

Upper Moreland 38, New Hope-Solebury 36 (OT) >> Holly Gohl scored 10 of her 12 points after halftime, including all four of Upper Moreland’s points in overtime as the Golden Bears edged New Hope-Solebury in a matchup of the last two teams unbeaten in SOL Freedom play.

Upper Moreland (8-0, 5-0 division) trailed 21-14 at the break but outscored the Lions 18-8 in the third to go up 32-29. New Hope bested the Bears 5-2 in the fourth to force OT.

Gabby D’Agostino scored 10 of her 12 points in the second quarter for New Hope-Solebury (5-3, 4-1) while Reagan Chrencik finished with 11 points.

Upper Merion 52, Chichester 17 >> Leveyda Fuqua finished with 12 points as Upper Merion cruised to its third-straight win in the nonleague contest to get back to .500.

Kennedy Coles and Devon Maiden both scored nine points for the Vikings (3-3, 2-0 PAC Frontier).

Plymouth Whitemarsh 54, Wissahickon 27 >> Erin Daley scored a game-high 21 points, Abby Sharpe was just behind with 20 points and Plymouth Whitemarsh cruised to its fifth win in a row.

Kylie Friedman had nine points and a steal for Wissahickon (2-5, 0-5 SOL Liberty). Kaitlyn McGreary collected eight points and 10 rebounds while Claira Baldasano finished with eight points and three rebounds.

Methacton 70, Pottsgrove 5 >> Ashley Fisher had 17 points and four steals, Cassidy Kropp collected 14 points and four steals and Methacton cruised to a PAC win.

Mairi Smith finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors (4-3, 2-1 PAC, 1-1 PAC Liberty).

Perkiomen Valley 64, Pope John Paul II 12 >> Grace Galbavy paced Perkiomen Valley with 12 points as the Vikings rolled to remain undefeated.

Quinn Boettinger chipped in 10 points for PV (7-0, 3-0 PAC, 2-0 PAC Liberty). Elena Collilouri’s six points led Pope John Paul II (4-4, 2-1 PAC, 2-0 PAC Frontier).
