Semifinal tasks set for O’Hara, Carroll
Cardinal O’Hara and Archbishop Carroll will compete Tuesday night at Philadelphia University for a berth in next week’s Philadelphia Catholic League championship game at The Palestra.
No. 2 O’Hara meets third-seeded Archbishop Wood in the first semifinal at 6:30. The Lions (21-2), who have been the top-ranked team in the Daily Times Super 7 all season, routed Lansdale Catholic, 70-32, in the quarterfinal round. They are the last team to have beaten Wood (17-6), a 44-36 decision Jan. 8. Since that time, the Vikings have won 13 consecutive games, including a 49-34 success over Archbishop Ryan in the quarterfinals.
Fourth-seeded Carroll (11-12) is tasked with playing top-seeded Neumann-Goretti (21-0), which hasn’t lost since the 2014 PIAA Class AA final. The Patriots fell to the Saints, 56-19, in the regular season. Carroll and Neumann-Goretti are slated to tip off at 8 o’clock.
